Coding Quality Analyst
Department: Health System Shared Services | MIM CDI and Coding
After medical records are coded in Medical Information Management (MIM), the Coding Quality Analyst is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of coding assignment through random auditing of medical record coding and MS-DRGS accuracy.
Additionally, the manager completes 3M APC Software claim edits and handles requests from the Central Business Office (CBO) for compliance with CMS' National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI) and Outpatient Code Editor (OCE) edits.
The analyst provides feedback to the Manager of Data Quality on coding quality and suggests ways to improve accuracy. This position focuses on coding quality improvement by reviewing selected medical records for accurate diagnoses and procedures.
The analyst uses the encoding and abstracting system to guarantee precise coding, DRG/MS-DRG assignment, and advises medical record coding specialists on coding guidelines when needed.
Requirements:
- Associate degree in Health Information Management, with 3-5 years of medical center outpatient coding experience (ICD10-CM and CPT) in services like emergency, outpatient, surgery, observation, and clinics. A Bachelor's degree in Health Information Administration or a similar field is preferred.
- Substantial administrative medical information management experience, electronic health records, and health information management application knowledge are essential.
- Certification as a Registered Health Information Record Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) by the American Health Information Management Association, COC (outpatient credential only).
