The Janitor-Building Guard plays a key role in providing a safe and clean environment for our customers and staff. This position will perform janitorial and/or arena building guard duties in a Ramsey County facility, to include: cleaning and maintaining public buildings and surrounding areas, controlling building entrances, enforcing facility rules and regulations, inspecting building areas, and making safety/security checks, providing customer service and assistance, resurfacing and performing ice maintenance, performing general grounds maintenance; and to perform related duties as assigned.

Examples of Work Performed **JANITORIAL DUTIES**

Clean and maintain offices, work stations, restrooms, and other building areas to include cleaning and maintenance of floors, carpets, walls, windows, furnishings and other building fixtures by using a variety of techniques, methods, and equipment such as burnishers, buffers, shampooers, extractors, vacuums, etc.

Maintain areas in and around County buildings to include mowing, weeding, fertilizing and watering lawns and flowers, pruning trees and bushes, collecting and disposing of trash, removing snow and ice from sidewalks, sweeping ramps and plazas, and applying pesticides.

Make minor repairs such as changing light bulbs, completing small painting jobs, repairing furniture and cleaning equipment.

Move and relocate office furniture and equipment as directed.

Receive, store and deliver supplies; set up, remove or store tables, chairs, and other furniture, possibly several times within one shift; and maintain tools, equipment and supplies used on the job.

**BUILDING GUARD DUTIES:**

Inspect building areas and grounds to check safety and security measures such as locked doors and windows, fire hazards, trespass, unauthorized exit or theft, and slipping/tripping hazards.

Perform ice maintenance duties.

Monitor audio surveillance, security cameras, and building card access activities to ensure building safety, security and control, and notifies and assists designated staff during emergency situations.

Screen and direct visitors, record visits, and notify staff of visitors.

Verbally control large crowds at County facilities and arenas.

Operate electronic doors and elevators to control entrance to and exit from a County building; distribute and record the distribution of security keys to staff.

Answer phone calls and provide information to the public or refer calls to staff.

Exam/Screening Process Information **The examination process will consist of the following section with each section weighted as indicated:**

Training and Experience Rating = 100%

The examination for the Janitor Building Guard title will consist of a training and experience rating, comprised of the questions in the attached supplemental questionnaire. Not all applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will pass the training and experience rating. The rating on this supplemental questionnaire will depend on your answers to the questions do not mark "see resume" or "see work history" as a response. Please answer all your questions clearly and completely. Failure to respond could affect your score and final rank on this examination.

**Eligible List:** The names of all applicants who filed a properly completed application and passed the examination/screening process shall be placed on the eligible list for an employment opportunity as a Janitor Building Guard. This list will be certified to the appointing authority which may use this list to conduct interviews to fill a vacancy. Candidates will remain on the list for 2 months or until hired, whichever occurs first. A notice will be sent to applicants at the time the eligible list is posted, informing them that the list has been posted and their rank on the list. The department may choose to interview any candidate on the eligible list.

**Veteran's Preference: This is a classified position requiring an open, competitive selection process.** Veteran's Preference points will be applied after a candidate passes the examination process. Applicants who are eligible for veteran's preference should update their veteran's DD214, and other supporting documents, and submit them as an attachment at the time of application.
