    REACH AMERICORPS PROGRAM OVERVIEW REACH (Regional Engagement to Advance Community Health) AmeriCorps, a program of the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research (IALR), is dedicated to expanding capacity for public health service by providing direct outreach and education service in the City of Danville, Pittsylvania County, and Caswell County.

    Members will provide individualized support, addressing the region's most pressing physical and mental health challenges through a diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) lens.


    BENEFITS:

    • Living allowance of $15,700 for a service term of 1200 hours over 12 months
    • Eligibility for Segal Education Award of $4,826.50 at the end of a successful term of service, which can be used to repay student loans or for current or future education.

    • Opportunity to earn industry certifications POSITION TITLE REACH Community Health Educators DATES OF SERVICE September August 2024 POSITION SUMMARY REACH AmeriCorps members will conduct two workshops per week over nine months in targeted census tracts in Danville City, Pittsylvania County, and Caswell County. Workshops will be based on specific population health topics, addressing areas of high-need and chronic health issues. Members will serve approximately 30 hours/week. This is a twelve-month position with opportunities for further training/service upon successful completion.
    Member Duties :


    • Lead and support half-time members
    • Support outreach events, to include COVID vaccination clinics/neighborhood gatherings.
    • Provide assistance and referrals in helping individuals address social determinants of health to include transportation, housing, food insecurity, economic distress and childcare.
    • Refer individuals to REACH Community Health Workers
    • Meet requirements that lead to certification as a Community Health Worker (CHW) in Virginia.
    • Keep records and report to Coordinator
    • Document progress of participant's goals and administer pre/post assessments.
    • Collaborate with staff, fellow AmeriCorps members, and partner organizations to develop and support service projects in the primary areas of healthy futures.
    • Recruit volunteers
    • Attend all mandatory host site and REACH meetings/training sessions.
    • Complete and submit accurate and timely documentation of AmeriCorps service hours.
    • Participate in any service projects required
