    The Salt Lake Technical College (SLTech) provides technical education and career training for students to develop the skills needed to gain meaningful employment.

    SLTech at Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) seeks to attract an active, culturally, and academically distinct faculty of the highest caliber, skilled in the scholarship of teaching, discovery, application, and integration of knowledge.

    The successful applicant will join a vital and innovative department. Members of the team are reflective practitioners and knowledgeable teachers in their respective fields.

    Provide classroom and lab instruction in all aspects of the SLTech Diesel Technician program while working with students in an afternoon/evening classroom and lab.

    The instructor will be required to collaborate with other members in this department who share the lab space, develop a new curriculum, and update the existing curriculum as needed.

    The candidate will market the program to recruit students. This position depends on student enrollment levels.

    Essential Responsibilities and Duties


    Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

    • Creates an effective, supportive learning environment for Salt Lake Technical College and Workforce Education students.
    • Teaches courses consistent with department procedures, appropriate Course Curriculum Outline (CCO), and catalog description.
    • Provides each student with a syllabus (paper or online) at the first-class meeting that complies with department procedure and the CCO.
    • Teaches assigned classes at the scheduled time and place, meeting during required contact hours.
    • Demonstrates the incorporation of active and applied learning in courses taught (hands-on and engaged high-impact activities).
    • Provides appropriate and timely feedback for all assignments
    • Promotes the development of critical thinking among students.
    • Actively participates in the update and production of new curriculum development and related activities as a contributing team member of Salt Lake Technical College and Workforce Education.
    • Maintains campus presence to respond to instruction and daily needs of students, departments, college, and community. Actively and consistently engage all students enrolled in programs assigned to teach on a daily basis, ensuring contact is significant.
    • Maintain availability to teach courses at times directed by the academic needs of the program and availability of staffing pool. The department recommends final teaching assignments with the final decision by the Academic Administrator.
    • Returns graded assignments in a timely fashion per department standards.
    • Consistently improve course quality, design, and course integrity through participation in the college-wide assessment of student learning.
    • Maintains student attendance, progress, completion, and employment outcome records, per SLTC requirements.
    • Tracks and reports student progress.
    • Conducts a variety of appropriate evaluations of student performance. Informs students of progress to date periodically and assigns and submits grades by published deadlines.
    • Assists in maintaining a safe and mutually respectful instructional environment.
    • Uses appropriate resources and technology in the delivery of courses.
    • Collaborates with colleagues for instructional improvement.
    • Coordinates and supervises internships and clinical experiences for students as assigned.
    • Responds to voicemail and email communication promptly (generally within 1 day).
    • Meets deadlines.
    • Maintains professional appearance as defined by the discipline and/or College procedure.
    • Partners with the college to provide innovation to improve the learning environment.
    • Promotes support for the mission, vision, values, and goals of SLTech by incorporating culturally competent pedagogy and inclusivity practices.
    • Under the direction of the Associate Dean and the Department Coordinator, engages employers, industry representatives, and community members.
    • Provide an industry viewpoint to students and the training program so that students will be prepared to enter the workforce when completed.

    • Effectively prepare and teach classes to facilitate student learning.
    • Assess student performance and maintain student records.
    • Develop, distribute, and adhere to current course outlines and/or syllabi.
    • Participate in curriculum development.
    • Advise students on program and/or course requirements.
    • Demonstrate and support a professional commitment to the Aviation and Transportation Related Technology Division and Salt Lake Tech mission and value statements.
    • Participate in college meetings and provide general service to the school and college.
    • Participate in recruiting opportunities.


    Recruiting opportunities will be available throughout the school year and the candidate will need to calendar those dates for attendance.

    Minimum Qualifications


    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Eight (8) full-time years of paid Heavy Duty Diesel Systems technician experience.
    OR


    • Six (6) full-time years of paid diesel work experience and an Associate of Applied (AAS) degree.
    OR


    • Four (4) full-time years of paid diesel work experience and a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree. The Bachelor of Science degree must be in a related field.
    Preferred Qualifications


    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in Diesel Systems Technology or related field from an accredited
    College or University.


    • Two (2) years of post-secondary teaching experience in Diesel Systems Technology or a related field.
    • A working knowledge of Canvas LMS is preferred.
    • Veterans with diesel work and training will be given an advantage in a screening interview.
    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities


    KSA's:


    Provide classroom and lab instruction in all aspects of the SLTech Heavy Duty Diesel program while working with students in an afternoon/evening classroom and lab.


    • This is a first-year program and second-year degree-seeking students may move to the day program or finish if possible in the afternoon/evening program.
    • Engage in professional development activities to remain current and improve knowledge, skills, and abilities relevant to the machinist and teaching professions.
    • Work cooperatively with others to purchase required materials and equipment and manage and maintain the shared classroom space and lab equipment.
    • Work with your department in outreach efforts to recruit students and advertise the program.
    • Be physically fit and able to work on, above, and under semi-trucks and equipment. This job requires heavy lifting and you should be able to lift and carry at least 50 lbs.
    • Applicant must be computer proficient and know or be able to learn how to use Canvas Learning Management Software within the first 90 days on the job.
    • This is a full-time, full-year position with vacation time and other benefits. The applicant must be present full-time when working, this is not a remote teaching/learning position.
