Harlem Children's Zone (HCZ) — a world-renowned education and poverty-fighting organization based in New York — seeks an enthusiastic, dedicated, and mission-aligned Accounts Payable Manager to join our Finance Team

We are seeking an Accounts Payable Manager to join HCZ's dynamic and fast-paced Finance Department. The Accounts Payable Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day HCZ's accounts payable operations and functions.

This position works collaboratively with department directors and staff (who are the primary clients of this position) to ensure that accounts payable transactions are properly accounted for in accordance with GAAP and HCZ policies and procedures.

This position will play a key role in financial system assessment, development, training, and integration into the accounts payable function, supervises two accounts payable staff, and reports to the Assistant Controller.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field.
  • 6 years of accounts payable experience working in a similarsized operation (approximately 30,000 invoice payments per year).

  • Knowledge of cloud based/paperless financial system with encumbrances, as well as strong management skills, a high level of integrity, professional attitude, strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to transform large financial data into various database formats/ reports for exporting into ERP systems.
  • Detailoriented with the selfinitiative to drive projects to conclusion. Adheres to company's policies, procedures and complies with instructions. Provides deliverables within agreedupon timelines.
  • Strong knowledge of internal control, assessment of risk areas, and ability to mitigate control weaknesses.
  • A team player with excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to listen and respond effectively to sensitive inquiries and complaints. Act positively and motivate team members while maintaining good working relationships with personnel with varying levels of business acumen and financial literacy.

What you'll do

  • Manage, coordinate, and participate in accounts payable daytoday processing and payment of invoices (check, ACH, or credit card).
  • In collaboration with the Financial Systems Analyst, provide training in Coupa Software to finance staff, program directors, and other staff members responsible for processing accounts payable.
  • Plan and implement Accounts Payable process improvements to strengthen controls, maximize system resources, and improve efficiency and productivity.
  • Practice effective monitoring to ensure payments are made to vendors promptly.
  • Responsible for all accounting entries related to accounts payable (i.e., various void check scenarios, expense reclassifications, and fiscal yearend accrual entries).
  • Manage and review Accounts Payable aging.
  • Coordinate the preparation of yearend 1099 processing; create, initiate, and reconcile data for reporting.
  • Manage General Ledger account reconciliations assigned to Account Payable staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.
