- Utilizes federal methodology need analysis criteria to review and evaluate financial aid applications and determine accuracy, completeness and financial need level. Must maintain confidentiality throughout the process.
- Compares FAFSA data with verification documents (tax transcripts, worksheets, W-2s, etc.) and updates diverse IT database and applications, performs needs analysis, and prepares electronic files for reprocessing.
- Makes financial aid awards by determining need levels, confirming resources and awards funds within parameters, and utilizing IT resources to "package" available aid.
- Provides one-on-one or small group counseling for students, parents or others regarding financial aid issues, procedures to award, reasons for denial or lack of eligibility, deadlines, petition processes and other relevant issues.
- Contributes to the outreach efforts of the office and college for either new or continuing students. Outreach efforts range from presentations to small or large groups on or off campus, workshops or representing the college at varying events as necessary.
- Develops and updates student consumer publications including financial aid web pages and other materials.
- Evaluates satisfactory academic progress student suspension appeals and determines future aid eligibility based on appeal results.
- Collaborates with Director to interpret federal regulations, policy interpretation, and creation of updated policies and review unusual, confidential, and complicated or problem applications, petitions or requests with the director.
- Monitor and follow up on the status of all pending student loan documents (federal, state or credit) in order to maintain an accurate accounting of each student's financial aid package through first disbursement. Process and reconcile Federal Pell Grant, Federal SEOG, and/or Federal Work Study to ensure student eligibility for federal program, while maintaining federal compliance with regulations.
- Assists new and continuing students with student service processes necessary for admission, matriculation and graduation.
- Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director or Director.
- Associate degree from an accredited college or university in Business, Finance, Accounting or a related area OR a high school diploma plus a minimum of three years' of professional experience providing direct service to college students and prospective students about financial aid eligibility, application procedures, aid programs, costs, indebtedness, and other money management and financial planning issues.
- Minimum of 2 years' experience providing advice and counseling to students in a student services or support function within a college environment.
- Average proficiency with full suite of Microsoft Office applications and other diverse IT software systems and applications, including at least one of the following: Datatel/Colleague and Image Now,
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Business, Finance, Accounting or a related area.
- At least 5 years' experience providing financial aid advice and counseling to students within a college environment.
- At least 2 years' experience using diverse educational and financial aid software systems and applications, and federal student financial aid related vendor and agency supported web-based services and programs, including Central Processing System (CPS), Common Origination and Disbursement (COD), National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS), Return of Title IV Funds (R2T4), G5 and Student Clearinghouse.
- Demonstrated success in position requiring high financial acumen, analytical ability, critical thinking skills, utilization of financial planning methodologies, tools and processes, or similar skills and abilities.
- Demonstrated success working within fast-paced, demanding, dynamic, high-pressure, stressful work with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrate sensitivity to students with diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds and students with disabilities.
- Excellent interpersonal skills including written and oral with the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse professional, community, and student population.
- Individual that is self-motivated with strong planning, organizational, coordinating, implementing and evaluating skills.

Overview
Cincinnati State Technical and Community College invites applications for the position of full-time, Financial Aid Advisor (Grade 18). Under general supervision, the Financial Aid Advisor (FAA) works as part of a highly functional, fast-paced, customer-service oriented team to counsel and advise new, continuing and re-entering students about financial aid eligibility, application procedures, aid programs, costs, indebtedness, and other money management and financial planning issues. This position is also responsible for developing a customized plan to meet the particular needs and situation of each student.
This position responds to management direction; takes responsibility for own actions; keeps commitments; commits to long hours of work when necessary to reach goals; completes tasks on time or notifies appropriate person with an alternate plan.
