General Position Summary


The Voter Outreach Coordinator is responsible for the development, management and coordination of direct voter contact and outreach strategies to engage voters on priority civic engagement campaigns.

The person in this role is a strategic thinker and inspirational leader who believes in the power of people to activate voters and community on the issues of neighborhood oil drilling, corporate and polluter accountability, housing justice, and building a statewide membership base of progressive youth and communities of color.

The position requires coordination of voter outreach efforts, modeling voter universes, coaching staff, mobilizing voters/electoral organizing, and the implementation of campaign systems.


The person in this position must have the ability to travel regularly in California to provide on-the-ground support, coordinate multiple teams, delegate responsibilities, and provide leadership for voter contact campaign implementation.

This position reports to CBE's Civic Engagement Director, is a member of the Civic Engagement Department, supervises a team of voter outreach leads, and oversees voter outreach organizer teams.


Key Responsibilities and Requirements:

  • Coordinate and promote voting and civic participation with a focus on high opportunity voters including youth voters, new and returning voters, and outreach to organizational membership, allies, and stakeholders.
  • Coordinate and participate in direct voter outreach, Get Out The Vote programs, and voter registration activities for base building and voter mobilization.
  • Lead and participate in engaging voters and volunteers through inperson/virtual presentation, tabling and visibility events, and through electronic and written communication.
  • Develop and cocreate compelling messages, scripts, FAQ's, pivots, literature, and materials that are culturally relevant and affirming for priority audience.
  • Maintain inventory of voter outreach materials and supplies.
  • Oversee logístical operations and oversight of schedules for daytoday voter outreach team and campaign outreach efforts.
  • Ensure accurate voter data collection and list management utilizing voter database.
  • Maintain and provide information for grant reporting and tracking our voter engagement impact.
  • Recruit, train, coach, supervise and coordinate voter outreach team members.
  • Lead regular team meetings with direct reports for oversight of voter engagement campaign implementation and meeting voter contact and outreach goals.
  • Identify universe of voters, analyze voting patterns and trends, and track the progress of campaigns to adjust strategies as needed.
  • Attend partner coalitions, networks, and organizational convenings, trainings, retreats, meetings and provide voter outreach strategies, recommendations, and coordinate CBE's participation in joint voter outreach programs.
  • Assist in integrated voter engagement programs with Civic Engagement Coordinator for outreach, recruitment, program planning, materials development, and event/ meeting coordination.
In addition to the above, racial equity and language justice are key areas supported by the Voter Outreach Coordinator.

Qualifications and Expectations:

  • Understanding of environmental justice, climate justice, and a commitment to longterm social change through outreach and organizing
  • Demonstrated experience in community or union organizing, canvassing and phonebanking for electoral campaigns, including the use of PDI, CallEvo, CallHub, Thru Text, or other voter contact tools and CRM
  • Strong campaign and project management skills with the ability to coordinate internal and external partners
  • Understanding of techniques in gathering, compiling, and analysing voter data
  • Understanding of election law, policies, and procedures
  • Strong interpersonal skills, communityoriented, with the ability to engage people from different social, cultural, and professional backgrounds
  • Strong work ethic, punctual, and selfmotivated to lead and build relationships with local, regional, and statewide alliances and partners
  • Strong timemanagement skills and ability to manage competing work campaigns and projects effectively
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with organizational staff, partners, allies and the general public
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative
  • Ability to work in highpaced, highpressure environments, and manage health and safety emergencies (deescalation of hostile inperson canvassing encounters; prevent and reduce injuries by following outreach procedures)

  • 23 years of experience in voter engagement, electoral
