    The Air Pollution Control Division (APCD) is comprised of many diverse work units offering a range of job opportunities for interested applicants.

    The

    Office of Innovations in Planning and Air Quality Data is seeking

    current, licensed Professional Engineers

    to join their staff working to


    develop innovative strategies to achieve long-term air pollution goals, including ozone attainment and the state's greenhouse gas reduction targets articulated in the Greenhouse Gas Pollution Reduction Roadmap.


    This program identifies and evaluates strategies for pollution reduction and prevention, gathers and analyzes data and information, and transforms those strategies and data into effective, elegant, and practical regulations and policies.

    Professionals employed within the program


    coordinate with various other units and programs within the APCD, and also engage directly with diverse parties including members of the public, community representatives, industry representatives, non-governmental organizations, academic and research organizations, the Air Quality Control Commission, legislative groups, other divisions/programs within CDPHE, and other state/federal agencies including the Energy and Carbon Management Commission, Colorado Energy Office, and the U.S.

    Environmental Protection Agency.

    The selected hire will be assigned to

    one


    of these work units:
    Policy Innovations Unit

    or

    Data & Policy Management Unit.

    Specific duties include but are not limited to:
    serving as lead on technical development and review of engineering calculations, control equipment and process evaluations, air pollutant emission calculation methodologies, and other technical work as needed by the unit
    collaborating with internal and external stakeholders on matters relating to division assessment and implementation of policy goals
    assisting in database integration and connection with existing internal and external state data management systems as well as the development of visualization and export tools for both division staff and the public
    conducting professional, position-related development activities Including reviews of technical literature and attending in-house and formal training
    manages reported emissions inventory data from the oil and gas industry
    engages with research projects to foster innovation in monitoring-informed emissions inventories
    stays up to date on air quality research

    technological advances in monitoring air pollution

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education/Licensure/Certification/Experience:


    Current, valid licensure as a Professional Engineer from the Colorado State Board of Licensure for Architects, Professional Engineers, and Professional Land Surveyors.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    In addition to the minimum requirements, the successful candidate in this position will have the following experience:

    Excellent written and spoken communication skills with customers and stakeholders

    Experience in the development and review of engineering calculations, process evaluations, data analysis, and other technical work

    Knowledge of federal and state regulations, state statute, and the specific areas of authority for the various agencies, as they relate specifically to air quality compliance

    Proficiency in database sequel queries and visualization software such as Tableau
    Strong ability to be an independent critical thinker and also work well in a team environment
    Skills and experience in adapting to evolving challenges and incomplete data sets
    Proficiency in writing policy or guidance documents
    Ability to identify and creatively resolve issues while exercising appropriate judgment
    Strong organization and project management skills
    Familarity with python coding, particularly pandas and polars


    Conditions of Employment:
