Under direction of the Deputy Labor Commissioner III, in the State Labor Commissioner's Office of the Bureau of Field Enforcement (BOFE) Program, The Office Technician (Typing) will greet visitors, answer general questions, and/or direct them to the appropriate individual(s); effectively operate multiple-line telephones; screen and route incoming calls to the appropriate staff; handle, organize, prepare and/or process daily incoming/outgoing mail, correspondences, and deliveries; develop and maintain accurate Program directories, office inventory lists; perform general clerical and other office duties including but not limited to, copying, filing, and entering data.

This position also provides support services for all managerial and supervisory employees, in addition to field staff.

Working Conditions

  • This position is located at: 320 W. Fourth Street,Suite 450 Los Angeles, CA 9001
  • Duties are primarily performed in a climatecontrolled office setting possibly in a highrise building; cubicle or shared work space under artificial light, utilizing computer screens and other office equipment; works in a fastpaced environment with constant changing priorities and deadlines.

Special Requirements

  • The position(s) require(s) the ability to type at a minimum speed as designated on the Class Specifications (link available in the additional documentation section). You must obtain a valid typing certificate confirming your ability to meet the minimum typing speed, prior to being hired. Additional information regarding acceptable typing tests is available at the website.
  • TYPING CERTIFICATE 40 WPM (words per minute) issued within the last four (4) years, certified from a five (5) minute typing test, and proctored either virtually or in person.
  • The California Department of Human Resources (CalHR) will not accept typing certifications from tests that were not proctored or less than 5 minutes long.
