Purpose

Provide a positive visitor experience while monitoring and assisting with security at the Texas Science & Natural History Museum.

Interact with visitors of all ages and conduct oversight of building facilities during museum operating hours and for special events.


Responsibilities:


  • Assist in the safety and security of the Texas Science & Natural History Museum by monitoring and protecting visitors, exhibitions, buildings, and grounds. Provide clear guidance, direction, and information to ensure that all visitors have a positive and welcoming experience. Provide knowledge of museum amenities, exhibitions, and events to visitors.
  • Document and report observed physical interactions with exhibits and collections by visitors, and address any inappropriate behavior in a confident, calm, and friendly manner. Report any missing, damaged objects, or unusual conditions to supervisors. Report any irregularities pertaining to building operations, safety, or fire hazards.
  • Follow museum policies and security procedures to assist in the opening and closing of the museum, daily operations, and during special events. Assist with setup of furniture and other equipment as needed for events. Actively participate in training programs to improve knowledge of the museum, security best practices, and customer service skills. Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications


High School diploma or GED At least one year of previous experience in a museum or other cultural organization Must enjoy working with the public and have the ability to deal with a wide variety of people in varying circumstances Excellent verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills Promotes collaborative climate that welcomes all individuals to the museum.

Ability to calmly organize and effectively direct in emergency situations. Ability to work effectively within a team and individually. Demonstrated professional demeanor and personal initiative Availability to work weekends and evenings. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree Educational background or interest in science and natural history Familiarity with Texas Science & Natural History Museum (formerly known as Texas Memorial Museum) One to three years of security experience in an art museum or general museum/gallery, or other cultural organization Current certification in AED, CPR, and First Aid

Hourly Rate

$20.00

Working Conditions- Attire: Business Casual- Use of manual dexterity, Lifting, pushing, or pulling, Standing

Work Shift- Hours per week - 18- The work schedule will be discussed/agreed with the supervisor.- Varies weekly Tuesday through Sunday; some evenings
