The Norton Public Schools is seeking a dynamic educational leader to serve as Principal of the J.C. Solmonese Elementary School. The J.C.

Solmonese Elementary School (JCS) is a PK-5 school of approximately 560 students, 80 staff members, and a full-time Assistant Principal.

Norton is a community with just over 19,000 residents, located approximately 40 miles southwest of Boston and 25 miles southeast of Providence.

Our student population of almost 2,500 students is educated within our five schools.

We have three elementary schools, one 6-8 middle school, and one 9-12 high school and a PreK program, located at JCS.Our core values drive our commitment to all students in Norton.

Performance Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide instructional leadership to support educator pedagogy and curriculum adoptionsLead the school through the implementation of our Integrated Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (I-MTSS)Facilitate data driven, outcome-oriented meetings regarding student achievement and support.

Administer the operations of the school.
Manage all aspects of school, facilities, and operations.
Assume responsibility for the safety and administration of the school plant.
Establish high expectations for all students and staff and a commitment to providing the support required to attain them.
Ensure a safe and nurturing environment for students, staff, and families.
Demonstrate cultural competencies and equitable leadership practices through behaviors and decision-making.
Develop and implement a School Improvement Plan that sets the direction for school improvement efforts.
Conduct regular classroom observations to analyze instruction; supervises staff to ensure continuous improvement in teaching and learning.
Ensure that the learning needs of all students
  • Special Education, English Language Learners, and Regular Education are met.
Reduce and ultimately eliminate achievement gaps through classroom interventions, school culture, and programming beyond the school day.
Establish a collegial environment that honors and encourages staff's continuous learning.
Foster teacher leadership through collaboration, and shared leadership and decision-making.
Align the use of time, people, money, and materials to school's instructional priorities.
Cultivate and sustain meaningful partnerships with families and community members that support student achievement and well-being.
Attend school committee meetings on a consistent basis.
Assume responsibility for the implementation and observance of school committee policies and regulations.

Report to appropriate central office administrative personnel regarding the needs of the school with respect to personnel, equipment, supplies, and curriculum.

Maintain close contact with all interested parties, including students, school staff, parents, and the community.
Establish guides for proper student conduct and for maintaining student discipline.
Participate in the recruiting, screening, hiring, training, assigning, and evaluating of the school's professional staff.
Assume responsibility for the attendance, conduct, and health of students.
Foster good interpersonal relations among students and staff.
Maintain an awareness of factors outside the school that affect the school programs.
Keep abreast of trends, developments, and research as they pertain to education and school operations.
Exercise decisive leadership in crisis situations.
Perform other duties as assigned.
