Position Summary:


The Central Service Technician II holds certification as either a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Central Supply Processing Department Technician (CSPDT).

This position entails ensuring the proper inventorying, decontamination, assembly, inspection, packaging, sterilization, storage, distribution, and tracking of all surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment within the hospital.

The role requires independent work with mínimal supervision, qualification to train others, and acting as a resource for Central Processing customers.


Essential Functions and Responsibilities:


  • Understand and adhere to WPH Performance Standards, Policies, and Behaviors.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the responsibilities of the position.
  • Attend staff meetings or equivalents to update knowledge related to current department/hospital issues.
  • Complete annual department/hospital competency requirements and document appropriately.
  • Adhere to all WPH policies and procedures including dress code, code of conduct, customer service, attendance, and submission of annual physical.
  • Sort, disassemble, decontaminate, rinse, and disinfect instruments and clinical equipment using appropriate methods and solutions. Operate and troubleshoot cleaning equipment. Handle garbage, linen, and biohazardous material while maintaining safety standards.
  • Maintain proper functioning of sterilizers, ultrasonic cleaner, and instrument decontamination washers and perform inspections.
  • Assemble, protect, wrap, containerize, peel package, and label instruments according to recipes. Identify and inspect instruments for cleanliness and functionality.
  • Handle and store sterile supplies, equipment, and instruments properly.
  • Select appropriate sterilization methods, follow correct principles of sterilization, and document and verify sterilization loads and biological tests.
  • Retrieve, disburse, and track medical and surgical supplies and equipment in a quality/timely manner.
  • Use, maintain, and operate CPspecific equipment and testing devices.
  • Utilize processes involved in ordering, receiving, stocking, rotating, delivering, and monitoring surgical supplies. Communicate supply issues to appropriate personnel.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly work area and complete assigned housekeeping duties.
  • Serve as a resource to customers on all Central Processing functions.
  • Track progress and compliance regarding training, staff meetings, and inservice education.
  • Distribute medical supplies and restock supplies by rotating stock.
  • Transport patients to and from the Operating Room and Post Anesthesia Care Unit.
  • Clean and maintain work area including shelves in an orderly fashion.
  • Complete 10 Continuing Education Credits (CECs) annually and submit supporting documentation as required by NYS Law.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Education & Experience Requirements:


  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Certification as a CRCST or CSPDT required.
  • Previous Central Supply or Operating Room instrument processing experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with medical technology preferred.
  • Grandfathering Clause: Individuals are grandfathered if they worked for a cumulative total of one year between January 2011 and January 2015 and do not require certification.

Pay:
$47, $70,000.00 per year
