Introduction:


The Loudoun County Department of Mental Health, Substance Abuse and Developmental Services is seeking a talented and motivated individual to serve as a Prevention Specialist in the Prevention Intervention program.

Job Summary:


The Prevention Specialist performs universal interventions promoting overall health, wellness, and resilience for the Loudoun County community focusing on youth who have serious emotional disturbance and/or youth identified as at high-risk for an adverse childhood experiences.


Primary responsibilities include:

  • Lead interventions in after school and summer prevention programs that focus on youth who are identified as highrisk for adverse childhood experiences.
  • Provides schoolbased prevention and intervention services including implementing evidencebased prevention and intervention curriculum in high need schools.
  • Provide evidencebased prevention strategies to promote prosocial engagement and decrease risk factors for substance abuse, gangs, violence, suicide, and other negative social determents of health.
  • Collaborate with other programs, agencies and/or community stakeholders to provide appropriate behavioral health prevention and intervention strategies.
  • Conducts community outreach and education; consults with community agencies, groups, and service providers.
  • Transports individuals utilizing Loudoun County vehicles which may include a 12person van.
  • Complies with applicable Federal, State, County, Department, and Division policies, procedures, and regulations; completes required training and policy and process reviews.
Hiring salary will be commensurate with experience.


Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in related field; one (1) year of professional work experience working with high
- risk youth or a mental health and/or substance use disorder and/or prevention services; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual Spanish/English skills preferred.
  • Prefer certification as a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP).

Job Contingencies and Special Requirements:

Special Requirements

  • Must obtain and maintain CPR/First Aid, HIPPA, Therapeutic Options (TO), and OSHA required certifications.
Post Conditional Offer Contingencies

  • Employment is contingent upon successfully passing preemployment background check to include fingerprinting, credit, NCIC, DMV and TB test.
  • Must have a good driving record and a valid driver's license in Virginia or regional state of residence.
