Summary
The VP of Asset Recovery is responsible for the direct supervision and overall operation of the Asset Recovery Department.

The VP will develop and implement best practices for asset recovery to protect credit union assets, submit accurate and complete monthly reports on delinquency, charge offs, bad debt recoveries, and any other special project as assigned by senior management.


Essential Functions

  • Manage all functions of the department including goal setting, staff management, and participation in credit union leadership meetings and projects.
  • Monitor reporting on collections performance; utilize data analytics to identify trends, assess portfolio risk, and optimize collection strategies.
  • Maintain effective communications between other departments and senior management to minimize credit union losses.
  • Schedule, evaluate, train, supervise and delegate workflow to department.
  • Assist department personnel with decision making process and problem resolutions while monitoring and auditing all collection activity.
  • Ensure that all work performed by asset recovery department adheres to Sierra Central Credit Union policies and procedures as well as applicable laws and regulations.
  • Write, implement, and maintain policies and procedures.
  • Make collection calls when needed, handle escalated calls, and actively review serious delinquent loan accounts.
  • Recommend best practices and identify areas of opportunity for process improvements.
  • Make recommendations on legal actions, repossessions, foreclosures, and chargeoffs.
  • Work with legal counsel and insurance providers to mitigate losses.
  • Prepare monthly, or as needed, reports as required by senior management. Ensure all reports prepared by the department are accurate and timely.
  • Attend ongoing education opportunities and industry events to keep abreast of developments in the field. Coach and develop all Asset Recovery department staff.
  • Monitor Asset Recovery department for quality control and efficiency.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Communication and interpersonal skills: able to communicate well with members, coworkers and management, and represent the credit union positively; significant trust and diplomacy required, in addition to courtesy and tact.
  • Problem solving skills: able to effectively research, investigate, and offer solutions to issues that are more complex and difficult in nature.
  • Must be flexible and selfmotivated. Willingness and ability to stay late as required to complete task or project at hand.
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fastpaced environment with multiple projects, meeting sometimes competing deadlines.
  • Ability to deliver a high level of service to members and internal departments.
  • Must possess excellent negotiation skills.
  • Must be analytical and possess the ability to recommend sound and costeffective collections decisions.
  • Must possess detailed working knowledge of all collection related functions including but not limited to: repossessions, commercial loans, real estate foreclosures, bankruptcies, probate, credit insurance claims, small claims actions, bad debt recovery collections and attorney litigation.
  • Excellent organization, prioritization, planning, and followup skills.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, or related field preferred. High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 5 years of asset recovery experience including knowledge of Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Bank Secrecy Act regulations, Fair Credit Reporting Act and all applicable state and federal laws and regulations that pertain to asset recovery.
  • Advanced experience in all areas of loss mitigation including collections, charge offs, modifications, foreclosures, bankruptcy, repossessions, as well as managing outsourced servicing providers.
  • Minimum of 3 years of management experience and the ability to coach and develop direct reports.
  • Proficiency in MS Office skills such as Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel, including the ability to produce a variety of reports as requested by senior management.
  • Experience with use and programming of screens, workflows, queue structures and reports within a collections software system.

Physical Requirements (performed with or without accommodations)

  • Continuous sitting or standing for 7 hours per day.
  • Intermittent bending and walking for 1 hour per day.
  • Light lifting and carrying and pushing/pulling objects up to 25 lbs.
  • Must be able to routinely perform computer work for 68 hours a day as necessary.
**Salary Range $133,000 - $175,500 DOE
