    Job Summary

    Responsible for performing assisting the technician in the construction, maintenance and repair of energized Street Light work. This position requires the ability to operate a small bucket truck.

    Responsibilities


    • Climb wood utility poles
    • Dig ground, ditches, or holes using digging bar and shovel to install cable and pull-boxes
    • Work around hazardous equipment and work near energized parts or equipment
    • Replace bulbs and troubleshoot light issues
    • Set up work zones and cones to provide traffic control
    • Assist with assembling material on the ground
    • Work efficiently and effectively from heights
    • Operates various tools for the work (various manual digging devices, wrenches, hammers come-along, jack hammers,drills, ground rod drivers, hand lines, etc.)
    • Use of meters and other testing devices on secondary voltages up to 600 Volts
    Qualifications

    Minimum


    • Valid Drivers' License with good driving record.
    • Valid Flagger Certification by the State of North Carolina.
    • Knowledge and skillful implementation of federal and state regulations for work zone safety and traffic control.
    • Knowledge of manual on Uniform Traffic Control Device (MUTCD) guidelines and the translation of this to control traffic by using proper devices and techniques.
    • Knowledge of safety rules for construction sites and the ability to abide by them.
    • 500 hours experience in traffic control flagging.
    • Basic understanding of construction job sites.
    • Ability to work nights, weekend and holidays if needed.
    Physical Demands and Work Environment

    This job operates in a field environment.

    This role routinely requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, lifting in awkward positions, standing, and twisting.

    Also, working in inclement weather conditions, such as extreme heat, extreme cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind.


    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

    This position is physically active, with lifting required. Must be able to bend and lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

    Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more or 20 inches or less, with the ability to judge distance and space relationships.

    Precise hand-eye coordination. Ability to identify and distinguish colors.
