    Description

    This individual is a research assistant who will work with a cutting-edge research team in the areas of translational immunology and autoimmune diseases.

    The research assistant will be an integral member of the research teams and will lead the consent, enrollment, and data collection for one or more research studies.

    This individual may also have the opportunity to become involved in the analysis of samples from patients enrolled in these studies.

    Our overall goal is to better understand the pathologic immune responses that go on in patients with autoimmune diseases.

    PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Recruit and enroll patients for translational research studies
    • Coordinate recruitment and study visits in several BWH outpatient clinics
    • Interact with clinicians and study coordinators to identify potential study participants
    • Obtain informed consent from potential study participants
    • Coordinate the collection of blood and discarded tissue samples and their transport to the clinical lab
    • Manage communications with prospective and actively-enrolled participants via mail, email, and/or phone to schedule study visits and administer questionnaires
    • Query and update patient consent databases
    • Collect and organize clinical data about study participants from electronic medical records
    • Assist with manuscript preparation and presentations for professional conferences
    • Manage IRB protocol and study document submissions
    • Manage safety monitoring and document adverse events
    • Participate in sample processing and tracking
    • Process blood samples to collect and store mononuclear cells
    • Track stored samples and annotate inventory databases
    • Assist in the orientation and training of new students, technicians, and fellows.
    • Maintain established department policies, procedures and objectives, including the areas of quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control.
    • Perform other duties as directed.
    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent required.
    • Demonstrated organizational and interpersonal skills as required to work closely with a research team.
    • Demonstrated competence with databases/spreadsheets and software packages.
    • Willingness to learn laboratory techniques.
    • Experience in clinical research or patient recruitment preferred but not required

    • Ability to multi-task, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines
    • Ability to identify problems, develop solutions, and escalate when appropriate
