Position Summary:


Under the direction of the Education Coordinator, assists with the overall planning and operations of the program and ensures quality services to children and families.

Under the direction of the education coordinator, the early childhood coach will provide feedback and support to assist teaching staff in improving their practice.


Required Education and Experience:


  • Bachelor's degree in child development/early childhood education or related field.
  • Three years teaching experience with children ages 05 in a licensed setting.
  • One year in a supervisory or administrative position.

License & Certifications:


  • Valid California Driver's License and reliable insured vehicle available for business use (mileage reimbursed) and acceptable driving record. A DMV printout and proof of insurance will be required.
  • Must possess a Child Development Teacher Permit or higher.
  • Must provide certificates of completion of approved pediatric first aid and pediatric CPR training within (30) days of hire. Employee is responsible for renewing and maintaining a valid CPR/first aid certification at all times.
  • Must have, or obtain by programspecified date, training in adult learning and in using assessment data to support coaching.
  • Must be CLASS reliable within six months of hire and update reliability each year.
  • Must complete Safety Training (Performance Standard; within three months of hire.
  • Must complete (16) hours of training on preventative health practices, as required by Health and Safety Code.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications:


  • Must be at least 18 years of age by date of hire.
  • Must submit proof of current vaccination status for measles, pertussis, and influenza (or a current, signed influenza declination form) in compliance with SB 79
  • Must comply with the CAPSLO COVID19 Vaccination Policy, either being fully vaccinated or have an approved exemption.
  • Must complete a health screening physical completed within 30 days prior to employment and a current TB skin test/Chest X-Ray.
  • Employment is contingent upon meeting all job requirements and background requirements: criminal history check (Inclusive of DOJ, FBI and Child Abuse), acknowledgement of child abuse reporting responsibility, criminal record statement (Form LIC508), etc. A criminal history clearance is required prior to employment.
  • Upon hire agency staff will check the Megan's Law (or the current sexual predator website) to ensure each staff being hired is clear for employment. Program administrative staff will check the website annually to ensure all program staff are cleared to work.
  • Must meet the Head Start Performance Standards and State requirements.
  • Employment in Head Start, Early Head Start and Migrant and Seasonal Head Start Programs is contingent upon approval of the Policy Council.

Essential Functions:


  • Works closely with the education coordinators to plan and ensure a developmentally comprehensive, multicultural, antibias program for children and families.
  • Works closely with education coordinators, and specialists to plan and implement an effective training program for instructional staff to increase their knowledge, skills, and experience in child growth and development.
  • Supports instructional staff through training, modeling, and guidance per coaching plan. Monitors the teaching staff for progress toward established goals.
  • Scores teachers using the Classroom Assessment and Scoring System (CLASS).

Responsibilities and Duties:


  • Participate in planning, development, and implementation of training along with education coordinators.
  • Work closely with education staff to ensure the curriculum model is implemented.
  • Ensure the center environment (indoors and outdoors) is developmentally appropriate, safe and offers children a wide variety of experiences.
  • Work closely with education staff at the beginning of the year for classroom setup using fidelity tool and the appropriate environmental rating scales.
  • Participate in community collaborations and local Quality Matters programs, QRIS Consortium and First Five.
  • Establish communication and dialogue with other coaches and consultant from other agencies working with CYFS staff.
  • Support staff in using child assessment data to develop goals and implement activities to support each child's learning.
  • Networks within and/or outside the agency to increase knowledge of resources and services that benefit clients; develop effective relationships; further agency and community goals; and/or raise the profile of CAPSLO and its programs.
  • Must maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Must use reasonable precaution in the performance of one's duties and adhere to all applicable safety rules and practices; and act in such a manner as to assure at all times, maximum safety to oneself, fellow employees, clients, and others.
