    Position Overview
    The Investment Accountant Analyst is responsible for posting investment journal entries in Oracle and analyzing investment accounting transactions.

    This includes reviewing investment activity housed by a third party administrator and performing analytical procedures to ensure that investments are booked in accordance with statutory and GAAP regulations.

    In addition, the accountant is expected to perform account reconciliations, monthly and quarterly variance analysis and assist with the completion of the NAIC statements and audit reports.

    The position requires heavily working with pivot tables and formulas in Excel in order to perform reconciliations and analytics.

    It is critical that time management skills, a continued sense of urgency, and job knowledge of investments, insurance and Annual Statement reporting are highly developed and consistently demonstrated on a daily basis.

    This position interacts with several departments within BCS as well as outside vendors, Third Party Administrators, and an external audit team.

    Excellent customer service skills are also required.
    This position will report to the Director, Investments and Taxes.
    Essential Tasks

    Record investment activity into the general ledger on a statutory and GAAP basis, and perform investment reconciliations, including suspense reconciliation.

    On a quarterly basis, prepare statutory investment note disclosures, review schedule D NAIC uploads, and provide investment support for GAAP reporting
    Review investment analytics monthly to ensure proper recording of balances
    Keep updated on new GAAP and STAT pronouncements that affect investment accounting and reporting; maintain documentation of updates
    Provide external audit team with information, per their interim and year-end requests, and prepare audit report investment disclosures
    Actively communicate with external accounting provider and BCS team members regarding investment activity and close status
    Requirements
    Education and Certifications
    Bachelor's degree in Accounting or commensurate experience required
    Experience
    2-4 years' experience in statutory insurance investments preferred.
    Basic understanding of insurance company operations preferred.
    Proficiency in Microsoft Excel - pivot tables, reporting, data tables
    General ledger, reconciliation, financial analysis, and journal entry experience required.

    Exceptional prioritization and time management ability with a sense of urgency to deal with the pressures of meeting regulatory deadlines required.

    Experience with annual statement software (E-Freedom), and G/L system (Oracle) preferred.
    Must be productive & accurate under pressure required.
    Able to work independently and collaboratively with a team required.
    Identify & implement projects to increase efficiency & precision required.
    Solid oral and written communication skills required.
    Ability to quickly grasp new information/instruction & concepts required.
    Strong organization and multi-tasking skills required.
    Travel Required
    Travel may be required to attend educational conferences.
    Workplace policy
    BCS has a hybrid office policy. This position will be required to be in the office on average 1 day a week.
