- High School Diploma or equivalent
- For external candidates: Have or have the ability to obtain a valid Student Monitor or Educational Aide Permit through the Ohio Department of Education (ODE).
- For current employees: A Student Monitor Permit, Educational Aide Permit or Active Ohio Teaching License is required.
- Ability to accurately follow directions
- Training and experience working with students with special needs
- Ability to work with students, school staff, and parents
- Ability to work in a fast paced and sometimes hectic classroom atmosphere
- Willingness to implement specific discipline/behavioral management plans
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, follow oral and written instructions
- Physically able to lift, position, apprehend, and restrain students
- Willingness to support and encourage individual students
- Ability to maintain accurate records
- Understanding of confidentiality of information about students and all school matters
- Willingness to work cooperatively with others
- Willingness to participate in required trainings
