Job Summary:

Facilitates comprehensive quality patient care following facilities policy and procedure and under supervision of preceptor. With proper supervision, provides a broad range of duties including but not limited to, administrative and clinical functions within their scope of practice and training.

Routine duties shall include providing health care services to individuals eligible for services in accordance with the self-governance compact and funding agreement between the Cherokee Nation and the United States executed under the authority of the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act.

Administrative

Answers telephone. Unit clerk responsibilities with supervision.

Clinical

All clinical activities performed under supervision of authorized personnel.

Takes and records vital signs. Prepares patient for examination. Provides patient education consistent with policy and individual patient needs. Assists with medical examinations and procedures including IV start. Restocks supplies in patient rooms. Collects and prepares laboratory specimens. Removes sutures. Changes dressings. Performs EKG. Uses Electronic Health Record in compliance with unit practice. Documentation appropriate for care given and tasks performed. Administers/assists patient with Activities of Daily Living (ADL). Adheres to professional and ethical standards. Provides basic nursing skills that training was given in educational clinicals/or orientation with the exception of administering medications, developing plan of care, or performing patient assessments. Other duties may be assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

No supervisory responsibility.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT

Must currently be enrolled in a program of practical nursing; or has completed a program of practical nursing and has applied to write the licensure examination. The graduate may continue to be employed in a Practical Nurse Technician role until licensed in any state, territory, or country, provided that the first licensure examination is taken within 90 days after graduation and the examination is passed within 6 months of graduation, on either the first or the second attempt.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT

No additional experience required.

COMPUTER SKILLS

An individual should have knowledge of Database software; Spreadsheet software, and Word Processing software.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must currently be enrolled in a program of practical nursing; or has completed a program of practical nursing and has applied to write the licensure examination. The graduate may continue to be employed in a Practical Nurse Technician role until licensed in any state, territory, or country, provided that the first licensure examination is taken within 90 days after graduation and the examination is passed within 6 months of graduation, on either the first or the second attempt. Basic Life Support (BLS) can be obtained during orientation and must be maintained throughout employment.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

The employee must not be and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG's Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA's List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG's List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and risk of radiation. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
