Purpose of Position:

The purpose of the Engineering Manager is to manage planning and designing of manufacturing processes for production. Responsibilities include maximizing efficiencies by analyzing layout of equipment, workflow, assembly methods, and work force utilization.

This position determines the parts, equipment, and tools needed in order to achieve manufacturing goals according to product specifications and drive continuous improvement across key business objectives.


Principal Accountabilities:


  • Works in coordination with the Director of Operations, Manufacturing Engineers and Production Managers to manage the planning and designing of manufacturing processes for production assuring overall quality, productivity, and policy / contract adherence.
  • Supports employee(s) by answering questions and assisting where needed.
  • Assists employees in resolving customer inquiries/problems at the time of initial contact.
  • Performs, or assists in, the orientation and training of employees as needed.
  • Maintains and promotes excellent client relations by identifying and promptly responding to all questions relating to the business.
  • Lead and mentor a team of engineers to achieve project goals and foster professional growth
  • Oversee project planning, execution, and completion, ensuring adherence to schedules, budgets, and resources
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement procedures to enhance efficiency
  • Assist with development of new processes.
  • Track expenses and make recommendations for costsaving initiatives
  • Collaborate with sales team members to present technical ideas and products to customers, and conduct customer site visits as needed
  • Support the hiring and onboarding of engineering talent, and provide ongoing training and development opportunities
  • Manages all engineering activities including design, development, production and testing
  • Provides transfer where inquiry requires higher level of expertise.
  • Fosters a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Performing inspections of equipment, materials and products.
  • Continually look for opportunities to improve the manufacturing process and department.
  • Work with the Modus QC Inspection team to ensure parts are within allowable tolerances and finished parts do not have any flaws.
  • Adhere to all company Safety policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to all company Quality Management System policies and procedures
  • May be required to master the programming, resolve the dynamics of the dispense process for various products, develop new processes and maintain quality.
  • Performs the daytoday responsibilities of assigned position.

Quantitative Data:


  • The Engineering Manager is a key input to customer satisfaction and ontime delivery
  • Performance is measured by On-Time Delivery and Customer Complaints metrics

Organizational Structure:

The Engineering Manager reports directly to the Director, Operations.


Key Contacts:

The Engineering team and all aspects of this position require constant interaction with production employees and management.


Knowledge & Skill Requirements:

It is expected that the Engineering Manager possess these critical skills through prior knowledge and/or Modus training:

  • Requires Degree in Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in a leadership role.
  • Relevant exposure to a manufacturing environment: Aerospace, Medical, Automotive, Electronics experience
  • Experience with LEAN Six Sigma methodology.
  • LEAN Six Sigma Black Belt certification preferred.
  • Experience with MS Office 36
  • Experience with Business Central ERP preferred.
  • Experience with Core Value Stream Process Mapping.
  • Commitment to excellence and high standards.
  • Ability to drive continuous improvement across the team and organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to streamline processes and drive efficiency improvements within the engineering department.
  • Proven track record of successfully leading and managing engineering teams to achieve project objectives and meet deadlines.
