- The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order. The NYPD strives to foster a safe and fair city by incorporating Neighborhood Policing into all facets of Department operations, and solve the problems that create crime and disorder through an interdependent relationship between the people and its police, and by pioneering strategic innovation.
- The Fiscal Control Section oversees the processing of payments and revenue receipts, manages banking operations for the Department and reviews special expenses for various commands.
- The selected Accountant, II will:
- Utilize computerized accounting system to enter on-line payments, retrieve budgetary and accounting information.
- Process payments for the special accounts, requiring research and advanced computer skills.
- Preaudit payment requests processed by Audits & Accounts Unit staff to ensure consistency with auditing standards.
- Supervise staff, delegate responsibilities, and evaluate work assignments.

A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, accredited by regional, national, professional or specialized agencies recognized as accrediting bodies by the U.S.
Secretary of Education and by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), including or supplemented by 24 semester credits in accounting, including one course each in advanced accounting and auditing; or- A valid New York State Certified Public Accountant license.
To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level II individuals must have, in addition to meeting the minimum requirements, at least one year of experience as an Accountant - Assignment Level I or at least two years of satisfactory full-time professional accounting or auditing experience.
Preferred Skills Residency RequirementNew York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment.However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
