General Summary of Position
Join the team at MedStar Washington Hospital Center as a full-time Unit Secretary in the Oncology 5E unit.

Work on a Rotating Evening/Night Schedule with shifts between 7PM-7AM, 3PM-11PM, 11PM-7PM, including Rotating Weekends.

The Unit Secretary plays a crucial role in providing clerical support for the nursing unit, ensuring smooth operations and organization at the assigned nursing station/area.

Primary Duties
- Welcoming patients, visitors, and physicians, offering assistance when needed.
- Managing incoming calls, relaying information promptly, and responding to patient call system requests.
- Coordinating with various medical disciplines, paging doctors, and handling access controls.
- Facilitating MedConnect Downtime and ensuring proper documentation and communication.
- Updating computer systems with unit charges, faxing orders, and maintaining equipment.
- Handling clerical tasks for patient admissions, discharges, and transfers.
- Assisting in maintaining unit supplies and equipment inventory.
- Utilizing electronic systems like MedConnect, Nurse Call, Teletracking, PeopleSoft, and Office Depot.
- Cross-covering other nursing units and providing necessary reports.
- Maintaining a clean and efficient work station.
- Supporting in the orientation and training of new unit secretaries.
- Managing daily census and nursing assignment information.

Qualifications:

- High School Diploma or GED, Required.
- Minimum 6 months hospital or clerical experience with typing/computer skills and medical terminology knowledge, Required.
- Basic literacy in reading, writing, grammar, arithmetic including fractions and decimals.
