    JOB DESCRIPTION:

    SUMMARY OF THE POSITION:


    In the capacity of a member of the multidisciplinary Housing Stabilization Team, the Recovery Coach is responsible for providing peer support services to tenants who struggle with alcohol and/or substance use disorders, gambling, and/or other addictive behaviors, as well as co-occurring mental illnesses and/or comorbid/complex medical issues.

    This support extends to tenants residing in various Pine Street Housing programs, including Scattered Sites, Congregate Housing, Veterans and Safe Haven program.


    As a Pine Street Inn Addiction Recovery Coach, the ideal candidate should demonstrate a high level of competency in their own recovery from addiction and utilize their own experiences and coping skills to support tenants in their respective recovery journeys.

    The primary objective is to partner with tenants, towards achieving personal goals, which ultimately results in greater independence and an improved quality of life.


    To achieve this objective, the Recovery Coach is responsible for assisting, encouraging, and empowering tenants to take an active role in their recovery, regardless of the stage they are in.

    The role involves participating in clinical meetings, self-help groups, and developing wellness, recovery, and relapse prevention plans, while connecting tenants with relevant agencies and organizations that support their individual paths towards improved wellness.


    As part of the Housing Stabilization Team, the Recovery Coach will provide Harm Reduction, Strengths-Based, and Client-Centered care as the foundation of both support and treatment.

    Essential to this role is knowledge and expertise in using Stages of Change, Trauma-Informed Care, and Motivational Interviewing.

    Additionally, the Recovery Coach must be willing to share their own recovery experience, if applicable, and serve as a mentor to others who are currently in the recovery process.


    REQUIREMENTS:

    EDUCATION/TRAINING:

    REQUIRED:
    Certified Addictions Recovery Coach preferred, or actively working towards a CARC (Certification Addiction Recovery Coach certification and the ability to obtain certification within 6 months of hire

    High School Diploma or GED

    Completed 5-day Recovery Coach Academy

    Strong written communication and oral skills

    Computer Proficiency


    PREFERRED:
    Bilingual English and Spanish

    Valid MA driver-s license and access to a vehicle


    KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:

    REQUIRED:

    Lived Experience:
    The candidate should have personal experience with recovery from addiction.

    Sustained Recovery:

    If the candidate is in recovery, they must demonstrate the ability to maintain at least 2 years of sustained and uninterrupted recovery at the time of hire.


    Work Experience:
    At least one year of experience working in the Addictions/Mental health/Homeless services fields is required.

    Understanding of Alternative Recovery and

    Harm Reduction Models:

    The candidate should have a strong understanding of less traditional Recovery and Harm Reduction Models, including but not limited to SMART Recovery, Moderation Management, S.O.S, Life Ring, DRA, etc.


    Knowledge of Treatment Options:
    The candidate should understand Medication Assisted Treatment options and various treatment models.

    Knowledge of Local Resources:
    Knowledge of local addictions/recovery resources and networks is required.

    Commitment to Non-Judgmental Support:

    The candidate should have a strong commitment to the rights of each person served to have helpful, non-judgmental, competent and continuous support of their choosing.


    Cultural Competency:
    The candidate should have a demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations and a desire for cultural competency.

    Crisis Prevention and Intervention:
    Knowledge of effective crisis prevention and intervention techniques and ability to respond appropriately in crisis situations is required.

    Teamwork:
    Experience working as part of a team is required.


    PREFFERED:
    Preferred 3-5 years of sustained and uninterrupted recovery for candidates in recovery.

    Experience working in community-based mental health and/or substance abuse treatment facilities/programs.

    In-depth knowledge of local caregiving and advocacy resources for individuals experiencing mental illness, substance abuse and dependence, trauma histories, head injury, medical illness, physical disabilities, relationship violence, and criminal and civil justice system involvement

    Familiarity with Boston area service providers

    PHYSICAL ABILITIES/SKILLS;


    REQUIRED:


    Demonstrated ability to sit for extended periods, climb stairs, operate a phone, computer, and other office equipment, and lift objects as necessary.

    Ability to travel between program sites as required.

    Readiness to respond to on-call requests and travel as needed.


    MENTAL ABILITIES/SKILLS:

    REQUIRED:
    Proven ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary and cross-functional teams.

    Strong cultural competency and experience working with diverse staff.

    Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to facilitate interaction among all members of the Housing Department

    Able to work effectively in a fast-paced human service environment, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability to ongoing administrative changes.

    Solid understanding of basic clinical and program model concepts

    Experienced in developing, implementing, and evaluating training curriculum for both clinical and non-clinical staff.

    Able to effectively manage multiple priorities simultaneously, make informed decisions, and meet deadlines.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
    vide social and emotional support, hope, and motivation while demonstrating competency in personal recovery and coping skills. Serve as a consumer advocate.


    Manage a caseload and regularly interact with individuals in person or over the phone to aid in their addiction recovery.


    Assist persons served in wellness planning and identifying goals through a comprehensive wellness plan that focuses on self-identified objectives, such as preventing relapses and building healthy relationships.


    Engage tenants in treatment, ensure access to appropriate levels of care, establish support relationships with providers, and facilitate membership with recovery centers, accompanying individuals to meetings to enhance their recovery experience (e.g., AA, faith-based, SMART Recovery).

    Provide stage-appropriate recovery information to individuals enrolled in the program.


    Share resources and linkages to resources to help individuals regain independence within the community and master their own recovery process, including supporting employment, serving as a gateway to the larger recovery community, fostering a positive social network, and facilitating access to education.


    Provide information on resources that meet tenants- needs and coordinate and navigate support services related to accessing detox, respite beds, medical and psychiatric medication evaluation, and referrals to PHP.

    Connect tenants to wraparound services, identify culturally and linguistically sensitive services, navigate the criminal justice system, and attend some appointments.

    Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with program standards, including case notes and referrals when applicable. Maintain electronic health records in a timely and accurate fashion.


    Provide upstream interventions when possible, working with the Housing Stabilization Team and Housing Team for high-risk tenants, and intervene at staff-s request when warning signs first appear by assisting with wellness checks and/or participating in case management sessions when substance use is a part of the presenting issues.

    Participate and contribute as requested by the Recovery Coach Supervisor or Tenant in case conference and collaboration meetings.

    Provide guidance and training to other team members regarding client substance use issues and available resources.


    Collaborate with Housing Stabilization Team clinicians to develop safety plans, crisis plans, and clinical risk response plans for tenants as needed, ensuring that these are built on the person's strengths and preferences and identifying strategies the person and the team will utilize to address and mitigate risks related to substance abuse.


    Attending all mandatory training and other trainings that will enhance the ability to assist tenants in maintaining and enhancing their quality of life.

    Uphold the rights of all tenants and continually be aware of these rights and act in accordance with them. Interact with tenants in ways that establish a climate of respect for human dignity.


    Work cooperatively with representatives of all PSI departments, including but not limited to development and external affairs, finance, and human resources.

    Represent PSI in a professional manner in all contacts with neighbors and representatives of other agencies.

    Perform any additional duties as required.
