    The Staff Engineer - Generator Mechanical Design will contribute to the design, development, and validation of products, solutions and systems for aerospace power generation.


    In this role, you will provide technical guidance, analysis, and qualification support of electric motors and generators for aerospace applications.

    You will lead technical teams for new designs and develop design practices while providing mentorship/guidance to the team.

    This position will be located at the EPISCenter in Dayton, OH, which is the headquarters for GE Aerospace Power.

    This is our new state of the art design and test facility.

    At GE Aviation in Dayton, OH the EPISCenter is the headquarters for all of Aviation Power Engineering.

    At this facility you have an opportunity to put your engineering training and skills to use.


    Our Engineers are focused and challenged on developing new electric power technologies and delivering state of the art products such as Hybrid Electric aircraft, electrical power systems for the latest military platforms, and SiC technology to name a few.


    Plus, if you like hands-on work, there is also a 155,000 sq ft lab that includes 6 high power test cells totaling 15 MW, an EMI chamber, an electronics lab, a rapid build prototype lab, and a real time simulator lab with all the latest equipment.

    Job Description

    Roles and Responsibilities

    Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects within the Power Generation arena using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements.

    Design, develop, or select rotating equipment components such as rotors, pumps, bearings, and seals adhering to industry standards and regulatory requirements.

    Collaborate with designers utilizing CAD software (NX) and Analysts utilizing analysis tools (ANSYS) to create detailed designs and conduct structural, thermal, and fluid flow analyses.

    Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Bid & Proposal, Manufacturing, Verification & Validation, and Quality to translate design concepts into fully functional prototypes and products.

    Conduct feasibility studies and performance assessments to optimize product designs for efficiency, durability, and cost-effectiveness.
    Evaluate materials selection, manufacturing processes, and supplier analysis to ensure product integrity and performance.
    Provide technical expertise and guidance to junior engineers, assisting in their professional development and project execution.
    Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities for design enhancements, process optimizations, and cost reductions.

    Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and failure mode analyses to mitigate potential issues and ensure product reliability and safety.

    Stay abreast of emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices in rotating equipment design, contributing to the company's innovation and competitiveness.

    Maintain accurate documentation of design specifications, test results, and project milestones, ensuring compliance with internal standards and external regulations.

    Basic Qualifications
    Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university or college
    Minimum of 8 years of design and/or development experience
    This role requires use of technical data subject to U.S. Government contract restrictions and this posting is only for U.S. Citizens.

    GE will require proof of status.

    Desired Characteristics
    Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university or college
    10 years of aerospace industry experience
    Proficiency in CAD software and simulation tools
    Strong understanding of mechanical principles, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and materials science
    Familiarity with product design, development, and verification
    Effective problem-solving skills and ability to lead teams through structured problem solving strategies
    Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders
    Demonstrated ability to lead programs or product development teams
    Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs
