Job Duties

  • This position will:
  • Provide daytoday data analysis support and review of Sports Betting data and Casino Central Systems' data within the Commonwealth of Virginia. This position will perform functions such as accessing up to 17 Sports Betting Operators' backoffice tools to coordinate data transfers, analyze data, and generate custom reports to be utilized by the Gaming Compliance team. This position will also assist in regulatory investigations of Sports Betting Operators.
  • Collaborates with Sport Betting Operators (SBO's) by participating in planning meetings to ensure that all milestones are met, and all data requirements are complied with in accordance with regulations.
  • Assists in the implementation of policies for gaming system data, procedures, and standards and ensure their compliance.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders from different teams within Gaming Compliance to provide analytical support.
  • Communicate, articulate, and deliver reports with mathematical modeling and data analysis.
  • Serve as a data liaison between Gaming Compliance, Lottery IT and SBO's by communicating to assist with the understanding of the data analytics.
  • Analyze, manipulate, or process large sets of data using statistical software.
  • Create graphs, charts, or other visualizations to convey the results of the data analysis using data analysis software and tools.
  • Coordinate and perform indepth data analysis.
  • Collect, clean, and analyze data to provide insights into SBO performance and business operations.
  • Perform deepdive insight analysis to understand product and user needs.
  • Create and maintain dashboards and reports to track key sports betting metrics.
  • Ability to articulate analytical information clearly and simply to peers on the Gaming Compliance team.
  • Provide orientation and training to endusers.
  • Provide support ensuring the proper documentation of problem events, perform root cause analysis, problem/defect resolution and implementation of corrective measures.
  • Work closely with SBO to ensure all required reports and data has been tested prior to being launched.
  • Acquire data from primary or secondary data sources and maintain the data systems.


Communicate results of data with the Virginia Lottery regulatory team while researching and investigating new potential sports markets to be approved as wagering markets within the Commonwealth.


  • Prepare reports for leadership that effectively communicate trends, patterns, and predictions using relevant data. Create appropriate data literacy guides to help the Gaming Compliance team be able to interpret the data.
  • Keep management apprised of system issues and problems.
  • Deliver oral or written presentations of the results of data analysis.
  • Design test plans, scenarios, scripts, and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited 4year college or university in Business, Engineering, Computer Science, related field or equivalent combination of training and experience required.
  • Experience in business analytics, or data science is required.
  • Experience with development/support of information technology required.
  • Knowledge of Structured Query Language (SQL), PowerBI, Tableau
  • Ability to work independently and manage projects.
  • Knowledge of Gaming Operations.
  • Knowledge of gaming regulations, and internal controls.
  • Must be able to effectively analyze, investigate, resolve, and recommend action for improvements and resolution.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) skills.
  • Proficiency in Math (Calculus, Algebra and Statistics).
  • Ability to analyze complex data sets.
  • Acute interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with diverse groups of people and officials.
  • Ability to clearly communicate verbally and in writing, prepare management reports, and make logical and sound decisions in critical, complex, and changing situations.
  • Ability to develop and document procedures to create an efficient and effective workflow.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively handle multiple priorities and /or competing tasks and responsibilities.
  • Excellent problem solving and conflict resolution proficiencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively deal with pressure and recover quickly from setbacks.

Additional Considerations

  • Experience in the gaming industry and sports betting preferred.
