- Program, test, and revise machine programming.
- Creates instructions for machinists.
- Reviews 3D CAD design blueprints.
- Makes calculations for programming including where materials should be cut.
- Translates instructions into a computer automated manufacturing (CAM) program.
- Communicates with operators who will use the programs.
- Checks completed programs by running simulations or tests.
- Prepares geometric layout of designs using proper software.
- Determines sequence of operations in a program.
- Chooses cutting tools that will be needed.
- Analyzes job order and performs necessary calculations.
- Writes programs and modifies existing ones for increased efficiency.
- Monitors all programs to make sure they follow blueprint instructions safely and successfully complete the task.
- Makes improvements to setup times for a task and contouring of complex shapes.
- Simplifies tooling time for workers and increases productivity for production.
- Evaluates all completed designs to validate their functions and ensure they successfully reduce time and money for production.
- Set up and operate 3 and 5 axis machines, if necessary.
- Commitment to all safety policies and regulations at all times.
- Make decision for change to improve production efficiency.
- Create Clarification/Deviation Request (CDR) if there are any conflicts on technical data package.
- Make tooling requisitions, as required.
- Report to Engineering Manager.
- Minimum of 1year programming experience in the manufacture of CNC machine metal parts and 2 years with CNC operators.
- Associate's degree in engineering, or programming preferred.
- Certification in Master Cam software and HyperMill is desirable.
- Prior experience with AutoCAD and SolidWorks is required.
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent work experience.
- Must work well under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Continuing education to learn new techniques as they emerge.
- Experience with programming.
- Must maintain confidentiality of work-related information and materials.

Job DescriptionJOB PURPOSE:
The programmer must study the drawings and blueprints of the components that need to be manufactured and determine which machines will be required, what they need to do, and the order in which work needs to be done. Uses CAD/CAM software, such as Master Cam, HyperMill, SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD, to program various production machines to perform various tasks according to customer specifications.

While performing duties of this job, the employees is regularly required to sit, stand and walk for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift 15 pounds. Prolonged viewing of computer monitors and screens. Repetitive motion (use of mouse and keyboard). Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) or protective gear may be required. Occasionally exposed to risk outside diameter (OD) electrical shock. Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, humid condition, fumes or airborne particles, flying metal burrs and chips and possible chemical irritants such as water-based coolants, hydraulic oils, degreasing soap and mineral spirit. Occasionally exposed to uncomfortable cold or heat.
