What You'll Do
Summary:
The team member's Number One job responsibility is to deliver the most remarkable patient experience, in every dimension, every time, and understands how to contribute to the health system's vision of achieving that commitment to patients and families.
The team member will use Novant Health's First Do No Harm (NHFDNH) safety behaviors/error prevention tools and high reliability strategies as appropriate to ensure a safe, remarkable patient experience.
Assists in the provision of patient care, therapy support and administrative duties as directed by PT, PTA, OTR/L, COTA, SLP in a therapeutic manner which acts to promote the patient's functional ability and lead to improved quality of life.
Responsibilities:
Essential Functions
Provision of Rehabilitative Care:
Assists in carrying out therapy treatment as directed by therapist. Ensures equipment necessary for therapy is available. Prepares gym/patient's room/patient to participate in therapy. Applies and/or assists patient with assistive devices and therapeutic equipment. Cleans gyms/patient rooms/equipment consistent with policies and procedures. Maintains safe environment. Recognizes and reports changes in patient behavior/ability to carry out treatment as requested. Collects vital signs as appropriate and reports results to therapist. Independently completes delegated tasks in an efficient and timely manner.
Occupational Therapy:
"Unlicensed personnel" means individuals within an occupational therapy setting who provide supportive services to the occupational therapist and the occupational therapy assistant and who function only under the guidance, responsibility, and supervision of the licensed occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant to provide only specifically selected client-related or nonclient related tasks for which the unlicensed personnel has been trained and has demonstrated competence. Direct supervision is required for unlicensed personnel (NC OT practice act).
Physical Therapy:
"Physical therapy aide" means any non-licensed person who aids in the practice of physical therapy in accordance with the provisions of this Article, and who at all times acts under the orders, direction, and on-site supervision of a licensed physical therapist or physical therapist assistant. An aide may perform physical therapy related activities which are assigned and are commensurate with an aide's training and abilities, but an aide's work shall not include the interpretation and implementation of referrals from licensed medical doctors or dentists, the performance of evaluations, the determination and modification of treatment programs, or any independent performance of any physical therapy procedures. (NC PT practice act).
Speech-Language Pathologist:
direct supervision by the speech-language pathologist will be provided for patient related tasks.
Administration of Services:
Assists with organization of charge sheet/Kardex (inpatient), schedules, and client charts (outpatient). Keeps temperature, cleaning, defibrillator, logs. Keeps linen stocked and changed. Orders and picks up supplies as needed. Delivers material to appropriate location as needed. (records, receipts, mail, etc.). Responsible for clerical duties as defined per team. Seeks assignments or tasks on own initiative during down time.
Documentation:
Provides written and oral communication regarding patient observations to RN/therapist.
Communication:
Communicates with patients, families, and visitors in a caring and empathetic way.
Provides timely and accurate information to all health care team members involved in the care of the patients, both within and outside of the organization.
Teamwork:
Develops and maintains positive relationships with team members and coworkers, both within and outside of rehabilitation. Functions as part of an interdisciplinary treatment team. Accepts responsibility for actions; seeks, accepts and acts positively upon feedback from others. Assists in meeting needs of a changing environment. Shares responsibility for effective internal communications through a team approach. Organizes individual patient caseload in collaboration with team workload demands. Performs daily administrative/office activities to insure efficient flow of care within team (e.g. new orders, discharged patients, scheduling). Actively participates and cooperates in team functions and meetings to enhance the delivery of services and team processes. Attends monthly staff meetings.

Assists therapists with maintaining charge sheets. Meets productivity expectations of the department

Develops and enhances relationships with referral sources and other professionals. Participates in activities designed to enhance community awareness.
