The Hannover Medical School annually trains in a variety of professions and offers young professionals a diverse, interesting, and comprehensive start into the working world with good future prospects and opportunities.

The training begins each year on the first of the year.

Training as a Medical Technical Laboratory Assistant (m/f/d)

As an MTLA, you will take on a lot of responsibility in your profession


Your main tasks include:

explaining symptoms and diseases, analyzing urine samples, conducting drug tests, working with microscopes and chemical substances, examining blood components, analyzing blood sugar levels, cultivating cell cultures, examining fungi, bacteria, and viruses, and similar activities.


Requirements for attending the MTAR school are:

  • Medical and scientific interest
  • Physical fitness to practice the profession
  • Secondary school diploma/High school diploma
  • Minimum age of 16 years
The amount of training remuneration is regulated by collective agreement.

The basis for this is the collective agreement for training in training occupations according to the Vocational Training Act (TVA-L BBiG) and is staggered as follows:

From January 1, 2020, trainees will receive the following monthly training remuneration:

  • 1,036.82 euros in the first year of training
  • 1,090.96 euros in the second year of training
  • 1,140.61 euros in the third year of training
  • 1,209.51 euros in the fourth year of training
