Salary:
$45,069 - $61,317 annually

AFSCME Union position
35 hours per week

Definition

Administrative and record keeping work supporting the operations of the Community Safety Department and all other related work, as required.

Supervision
Works under the general supervision of a Police Captain, in accordance with established methods and procedures.


Works independently to perform a variety of responsible duties pertaining to an extensive body of specialized rules, regulations and procedures; situations requiring clarification are referred to the supervisor.

Work Environment

The employee operates standard office equipment.


The employee has considerable contact with criminal justice agencies and social service agencies; disseminates reports in person and by mail; responds to telephone requests and complaints.

The employee has access to information pertaining to criminal investigations and records and legal proceedings.

Responsibilities:

Responsible for accurate processing of reports, citations, parking violations, FIO cards and insurance requests; verifies written and computer generated information for accuracy.


Maintains logs and files of departmental records, reports correspondence and other material in alphabetical, chronological, and color-coded numerical order, including indexing and cross-referencing.

Designs forms and documents for record-related needs.

Interprets statutes relative to dissemination and distribution of CORI related information and/or reports.

Responds to requests for information reports, personal record checks, and complaints at the counter and by telephone.

Assists the Crime Analyst with compounding information for the weekly crime bulletin

Tracks accident reports within the town

Assists the department court prosecutor with background checks, scheduling, and assigning officers to court

Assists with updating department social media in the absence of the Special Projects Clerk

Assists with other Town communication needs as assigned

Manages ID System for the department and other town employees

Assist the licensing supervisor with firearms and hackney licenses

Performs additional secretarial duties.

Performs similar or related work as directed, required, or as situation dictates.

Recommended Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience

High school diploma; advanced training in secretarial skills; three years of office experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Ability and Skill
Knowledge of office practices and procedures and department operations.

Ability to work independently, organize time and accomplish tasks with accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to record and maintain financial records. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Excellent computer skills, including word processing and spreadsheets. Communication and organizational skills.

Physical Requirements
Minimal physical effort is required to perform duties under typical office conditions.

The employee is frequently required to sit, speak, hear, use hands to operate equipment, climb, kneel and lift items weighing up to 30 pounds.

Vision requirements include the ability to read routine and complex documents and use a computer.
