JOB SUMMARY:
The Hazardous Waste Facilities Coordinator reports to the Environmental Health & Safety Manager and can also work under the supervision and direction of the Maintenance Manager.
This position will primarily provide in-house waste management services through segregating and/or bulking wastes or materials, hazardous & nonhazardous waste container labeling and area container inspection, waste compaction and handling, and limited oil or industrial material spill response, or spill clean-up and disposal activities.
This position will also provide general maintenance & facility services, including area & equipment cleaning, equipment and Hi-Lo operation, and general light maintenance.
This position will strictly adhere to relevant health and safety, as well as Environmental Regulatory, Magna Corporate, and/or Industrial Standards, as directed to do so through supervision, or documentation including federal, state, or corporate regulations and guidelines.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Engages in strenuous physical labor including lifting, pulling and pushing heavy objects including full 55gallon drums of products and/or wastes.
- Package hazardous and other regulated shipping containers. Ensure all waste shipments are properly containerized, packaged, and/or labeled.
- When requested or required to do so: signs waste/recycling shipping papers, bills of lading, and EPA Haz. Waste manifest (provided has obtained DOT Shipper Cert.), in compliance with relevant regulations and/or standards.
- Performs or assist with limited scope spill response and clean up, and/or limited scope emergency response activities including cleaning up oil leaks or spills, containerizing spill cleanup materials, cleaning oil pits or containers, and decontaminating environmentally contaminated equipment or surfaces.
- Works in various temperatures indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, while wearing various levels of personal protective equipment (PPE); gloves, eye protection, aprons, or Tyvek suits.
- Works in atmospheres and physical locations with the potential for exposure to various chemical and physical agents, some of which may be hazardous to health or the environment.
- Works in potentially elevated noise level environments.
- Adheres to all relevant health & safety, environmental, & quality standards, policies & procedures.
- Performs other duties and tasks as directed.
Desired Skills, Competencies & ABILITIES:
- Good verbal & written communication skills.
- Attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions well.
- Knowledge of how to operate motorized equipment and machinery.
- Ability to climb ladders, scaffolding and get into and out of trucks, and/or equipment.
- General or basic computer & smart phone skills and proficiency.

- Demonstrate problem solving skills in a work environment that is striving for continuous improvement.
- Selfmotivated able to work without direct supervision much of the workday.
- Must be detailed oriented.
- Must be able to operate a Hilo/Forklift properly and safely.
- Able to lift 15 pounds frequently, lift up to 40 pounds occasionally, and move and push drum dolly's up to 500 pounds in weight.
- A basic understanding of Federal, State or Local Waste laws and regulations, and how they are structured, and their intent.
- Ability to complete relevant Waste training course work, including: RCRA Hazardous Waste Awareness training, RCRA job specific training, & DOT
- Hazmat & Waste Ground Shipper Certification.
Required QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent education
- 1 year or more of environmental and/or waste or recycling services experience, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
- 1 year or more of work experience in a maintenance, facilities, or construction field.
- Other education or work experience may be considered.
prefered Licenses/Training/Certifications:
- DOT Hazardous Materials Shipper certified (if filling out manifests), or ability to obtain Certification.
- Forklift Trained and Certified, or ability to obtain Certification.
Pay:
Up to $27.00 per hour
