Under the direction of the Building Commissioner, reviews plans, and enforces Village/State Codes and ordinances through the inspection of construction in the Village.
Each Inspector may be required to be a specialist in a particular construction trade, such as plumbing, electrical, mechanical, carpentry, structural and similar technical skills.
This position is represented by the AFSCME union.Shift:
Monday - Friday Eight (8) hour work week / may be extended due to unexpected workloads or unusual/unplanned activities.
Salary:
$103,048.20
Examples Duties & Responsibilities:
- Interpreting and reviewing plans to determine compliance with building and construction codes.
- Enforcing Village codes and State regulations.
- Inspecting and writing reports regarding compliance and noncompliance.
- Researching and evaluating new methods of construction and products.
- Suggesting revisions to codes as appropriate.
- Visiting and inspecting sites under construction possibly cluttered with construction materials.
- Performing minor repairs, such as tire changes to motor vehicles.
- Performs other tasks as required, or as assigned, which are within the scope of the duties enumerated pertaining to the Job Descriptions per Department.
Requirements:
- Two (2) years of experience as a Building Inspector, or equivalent jobrelated work experience/training.
- Certification by BOCA, or a comparable organization as a qualified inspector of residential and nonresidential structures.
- Certification as a specialist, such as plumbing (State license required), electrical, HVAC, mechanical, structural, or other specialties strongly preferred.
- Possession of appropriate licenses to certifications to perform inspections and operate equipment.
- Possession of a valid Driver License.
- Knowledge of construction principles & techniques, as well as building & construction codes and regulations.
- Availability to function in the presence of unusual or erratic temperatures or lighting irregularities and adverse weather conditions both in and outdoors.
- Ability to walk, stand, kneel, or sit for long periods of time; climb flights of stairs and ladders; and work in heavy weather gear.
- Ability to walk long distances over rough terrain.
- Operation of required equipment, including appropriate trade tools.
- Computer skills strongly preferred.
- Effective communication skills.
- Work well under stress.
- Possession of equivalent jobrelated experience and/or training strongly recommended.
- Reside in a community (or unincorporated areas) within the State of Illinois which falls within a thirty (30) mile radius of the intersection of Briarcliff Road and North Bolingbrook Drive (Route 53) within six (6) months of the date your probationary period ends.
