Description
Works as a member of the Infection Control team in the coordination and implementation of the Infection Control program.

Contributes actively to the control and prevention through surveillance of infections throughout the hospital in an effort to maximize patient outcomes and improve the health of the communities served.


Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Medical Technology, Microbiology required or
- related field required


Experience

  • Field experience required and
  • 12 years 2 years infection control experience preferred

Licenses and Certifications

  • CIC
  • Certified in Infection Control Certification in Infection Control (CIC) preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Investigative data collection and analysis skills.
  • Ability to use computer to collect data and prepare reports.
  • Assists in establishment of goals for the Infection Control program in conjunction with the Infection Control Committee, and other related committees.
  • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards.
  • Interacts with to the necessary public health authorities. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Performs surveillance activities, analyzes data collection and conducts studies as deemed necessary. Investigates clusters/outbreaks; designs, implements and coordinates strategies to control clusters/outbreaks in collaboration with the Chairman of the Infection Control Committee.
  • Plans, develops, prepares and presents infection control educational programs (orientation, mandated and informational) for hospital staff as well as the community.
  • Prepares and submits regular reports of the results of surveillance to the Infection Control Committee and other related committees.
  • Provides input to the review and revision of infection control policies and procedures; researches infection controlrelated issues to provide appropriate recommendations for policy and procedure development as well as for use of new equipment and supplies.
