- Consults with professional development committees and different schools and departments to identify professional development needs;
- Collaborates in setting professional development priorities and in designing and directing professional development programs for all Division employees;
- Works with diversity resource planning team, equity teams, diversity resource and teachers to ensure the alignment of culturally responsive teaching practices are aligned with division curriculum benchmarks with state and division goals;
- Manages the implementation and evaluation of culturally responsive teaching credentialing and certification processes;
- Leads planning for a complex system of pupil transportation services, to include
- Oversees the professional development/training of all school bus drivers and ensures the compliance with all State DOE and Federal regulations;
- Supervises the professional training of drivers and staff;
- Develops and analyzes pupil transportation system performance data for the purpose of completing the annual pupil transportation report to the Virginia Department of Education;
- Works with the Director in the implementation of Continuous Quality Improvement programs across all Transportation Services;
- Works directly with Division officials to conduct analysis in support of the Director of Transportation's participation in the Division's Long Range Planning Advisory Committee;
- Work with the Director to lead Department public affairs and strategic communications efforts within the community, the Division, and the Transportation Department;
- Coordinate as required within Division to maintain pupil data required for transportation planning, to include requirements for special education pupils;
- Develop checklists, interest inventories, surveys, and assessment instruments as required for needs assessments and program evaluation;
- Collects, compiles, and analyzes data to evaluate programs and prepare evaluation reports; develops conclusions to provide accurate support for both formal and ad hoc presentation, papers, and discussions; applies appropriate statistical measurements to all evaluation projects;
- Work collaboratively with administrative and instructional staff to assess operational and program needs and effectiveness;
- Prepare related documents and presentations for School Division leadership and the School Board, as well as other identified stakeholders
- Establish appropriate security procedures for data and information obtained and utilized for the purposes of evaluation activities;

The Assistant Director of Transportation
The Albemarle County Public Schools Department of Transportation is actively recruiting an Assistant Director of Transportation to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the administrative, training, strategic planning, and communication functions of the Transportation department. Supervises and manages office personnel and functions including payroll, budgeting, personnel actions, and technology. Responsible for public affairs and strategic communication for the department. Oversees departmental training needs and programs. Responsible for analyzing demand for all pupil transportation services and developing solutions. Conducts transportation analysis and develops reports for the Director, to include the annual DOE State report. Strategically plan, administer, and evaluate the department's equity and culturally responsive practices. Gathers, monitors, and analyzes data and prepares reports and/or documentation related to how the department aligns with the division's strategic goals. Serves as a project manager for special projects. Serves as member of the Transportation Key Leaders, assists in developing goals, policy, and procedures for the Department, and participates in advisory committees. Models racial equity leadership through processes, procedures, policies, and practices that promote cultural awareness, anti-bias, and anti-racism behaviors within the Transportation department.

THE QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree in Business Administration, Public administration, engineering, information management or related field, and a minimum of five years related experience, including supervisory experience. Prior experience in project management is preferred, as is coursework in quantitative analysis and statistics.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of best practices in culturally responsive teaching, curriculum, assessment, and instruction. Ability to use best practice professional development techniques and align with measurable follow up strategies. Knowledge of state and local laws and regulations regarding pupil transportation, compensation; ability to collect and analyze data to recommend actions to be taken; ability to use microcomputer in the analysis of data; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; and the ability to use effective presentation skills when addressing a diverse group of stakeholders, to include the use of clear and legible visuals and articulate and audible speech. Knowledge of research and evaluation design, including application of appropriate statistical procedures, data analysis, and interpretation of results. Ability to supervise the work of others; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders at all levels, both inside and outside of the organization. Knowledge of procedures for safe storage and integrity of all public and confidential school records, ensuring that personnel and student record keeping procedures comply with State and Federal Law and District Policy. Strong time management, planning, and organizational skills are essential. Must also possess the ability to use or learn to use variety of computer software applications and programs, such as Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, statistical analysis programs, and student information system databases.
THE PHYSICAL CONDITIONS AND NATURE OF WORK CONTACTS
Administrative work typically in an office setting. Frequent walking and some lifting of light objects. Regular use of computer and ability to operate a vehicle for meetings outside the office and community. Occasional work outside the normal duty hours may be necessary. Frequent contacts made at all organizational levels (internally and externally) for purpose of achieving organizational goals and mission. Regular contact with citizens, highest appointed and elected officials, and others influential in the community.
THE SALARY RANGE
The hiring range for this position is $68,585 - $90,268 per year. Starting offer is based on applicable education beyond minimum requirements and internal equity. The position also provides excellent benefits including 12 paid holidays, paid vacation and sick leave, health insurance options with employer contribution, employer-paid life insurance, VRS retirement, and continuing education/training opportunities. This is a full time, FLSA exempt position.
