- Provide strategic direction, leadership, and management for the structure and bridge research program area
- Develop and manage a budget for all project line items
- Promote collaboration within the team and with other Research Council teams
- Assist in the design of research projects and technical assistance activities
- Communicate regularly with the team and research stakeholders
- Support the professional development of team members and mentor less senior scientists
- Stay updated on developments relevant to VDOT's Structure and Bridge program
- Provide support for technical assistance efforts by staff
- Measure and track team performance through meaningful metrics
- Assist in leading VDOT's research, innovation, and implementation efforts
- Contribute to the strategic direction of the Research Council
- Actively participate in Leadership Team meetings and initiatives
- Knowledge of transportation issues at various levels
- Ability to communicate technical information effectively to diverse audiences
- Experience in research management or related field desired
- Knowledge of VDOT policies and procedures
