    Job Summary

    PURPOSE OF POSITION - CLINICAL FACULTY


    Staff Physicians are accountable for carrying out clinical duties in a manner to enhance high-quality clinical services, promote excellence in education and training programs and demonstrate stewardship in each of Beaumont's pillars of excellence - Quality & Patient Safety, Service, Financial Performance, People, and Growth.

    II.PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES - CLINICAL FACULTYA.

    Clinical - Surgical Critical Care Intensivist Physician is a board certified/eligible in critical care who has been employed by the hospital to participate in the twenty-four hour coverage of the surgical intensive care unit.

    In this role, this physician will provide care to the critically ill or injured patient, working with the surgical critical care and trauma services to provide onsite coverage to this population.

    Follow and provide input on the development and maintenance of practice guidelines, policies, and methodologies for trauma/surgical critical care. Respond by phone to all pages regarding patients within 15 minutes. Follow health information and hospital standards regarding documentation for all patients admitted to surgical critical care service. Participate in relevant trauma and surgical quality assurance and peer review activities as required. Maintain utilization of ancillary and pharmacy costs within accepted national and managed care standards, as appropriate.

    Assure that all patient care records conform to the medical record policies of Beaumont and are subject to the review of the appropriate medical audit committee of Beaumont, in accordance with that committee's procedures for monitoring the quality of care rendered at Beaumont facilities.

    Attend and show evidence of trauma related CME of 16 hours annually or 48 hours in three years. Provide off hours call coverage for Trauma and Critical Care Services as assigned by the Trauma Medical Director.

    B. Clinical - Core Trauma Surgeon

    Core Trauma Surgeons are the foundation of the Trauma Service.

    Must demonstrate involvement in the care of the injured patient as demonstrated by participation in organization of trauma protocols, trauma team, trauma call roster and trauma rounds.

    Attend 50% of peer review committee meetings. Attend and show evidence of trauma-related CME of 16 hours annually or 48 hours in 3 years.

    Provide Trauma Day Call as required with response requirements similar to the Standard On-Call Responsibilities Provide Trauma Floor Rounding as the Physician leader of the Rounding Team as required.

    This includes daily organized rounds and documentation to allow the hospital or Oakwood Physicians Integrated to bill for the care provided.

    Provide Back-Up Trauma Call as required.

    Provide supervision to the Trauma Service providers to include Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, and resident physicians as part of the Rounding Team.

    Provide educational instruction to the Trauma Service providers to include Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, medical students and resident physicians as part of the Rounding Team.

    C. Clinical - Standard On-Call Responsibilities

    Provide On-call services for trauma patients Arrival to bedside of red level trauma within 15 minutes of page. Respond by phone to all pages regarding trauma patients within 5 minutes.

    Arrival to bedside of blue level trauma at request of emergency physician, nurse practitioner, or physician assistant within 2 hours.

    While on-call the physician will be clinically responsible for all patients admitted and/or consulted to the trauma service.

    Trauma Patients will be admitted to the trauma service and continuation of care will be communicated to the on-coming physician taking trauma call and/or physician responsible for rounding for the trauma service.

    Will assure H&P is completed on all trauma patients within 24 hours of admission and otherwise comply with all applicable documentation requirements and standards.

    In order to assure that services are available in a timely manner to trauma patients at the Beaumont facility to which Physician is assigned pursuant to this Agreement (the "Facility"), physician will not: (i) be on-call at any other hospital or health care facility at the same time they are scheduled to be on-call at the Facility; nor (ii) scheduled or board surgery cases at any other hospital or health care facility at the same time they are scheduled to be on-call at the Facility.

    Communication Consistently demonstrate positive interpersonal relationships with colleagues, hospital personnel, and patients/family in order to achieve maximum operational effectiveness and customer satisfaction.

    Communicate regularly to medical staff leadership on the status of the Trauma/Surgical Intensive Care as it pertains to the program and organizational goals and objectives.

    Work cooperatively with Administration to implement and improve Beaumont's level of service for Intensive Care Services, including services and programs developed by Beaumont.

    Participate with surgical critical care and trauma committees as requested or required by the Trauma Medical Director or Surgical Critical Care Director.

    E. Education/Training/Research Participate in the available education/training of hospital personnel and co-specialists.

    Participate and present as requested in monthly Trauma Grand Rounds with CME for physicians, other trauma team members, and hospital personnel.

    Participate in trauma and/or surgical critical care related research.


    QUALIFICATIONS
    Is an active or provisional member (or eligible) of good standing of the medical staff of Beaumont Hospital -Dearborn.

    Is duly licensed to practice medicine in the State of Michigan.

    Is board certified or eligible in General Surgery with a fellowship Critical Care.

    Maintain current ATLS and ACLS certified and maintain current certification.

    Demonstrates advanced competency in surgical critical care and trauma surgery


    PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

    Clinical Hours and Call Responsibilities:
    Each physician must share in call responsibilities, as determined by the Beaumont Medical Group (BMG) physician executive

    Committee and Administrative Requirements:

    Physicians are required to attend BMG Medical Staff meetings as well as assigned committee meetings from time to time.


    Quality Requirements:

    Physicians are required to meet or exceed the BMG quality, peer review and service excellence goals established for the year.

    Must demonstrate a work history of positive collegial relations with colleagues, support staff, hospital based providers, administrators, and patients.


    ORGANIZATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
    Responsible to BMG's physician executive or his designee for clinical practice performance

    Responsible to President, BMG, or his designee for non-clinical behavior.

    Responsible to Chief of Staff, Beaumont facility(ies) for credentialing and hospital quality standards.

    • Required Doctorate Graduate of approved Medical College
    • Critical Care Fellowship required
    • LIC-Physician (MD) - STATE_MI State of Michigan Upon Hire required Or
    • LIC-Osteopathic Physician (DO) - STATE_MI State of Michigan Upon Hire required
    • CRT-DEA Registration - STATE_MI State of Michigan Upon Hire required
