Summary:


The Mold Mover-Cleaner is responsible for using proper preparation procedures when servicing molds and duly responsible for moving molds to the correct work location in a safe and timely manner.

As Mold Mover-Cleaner, he or she will be disassembling, cleaning, reassembling, and preparing a mold for storage or use.

When moving molds, in most cases this will require the use of oversized forklifts in areas where machine operators may be present.

Attention to safety is crucial.


When there are no molds to be moved, this employee will be trained in basic mold maintenance tasks and will be responsible for cleaning molds.

He or she will work under the direction of the tooling assistant supervisor or tooling lead person. This employee must be safety conscious at all times.


Responsibilities:

The following duties are considered essential to this position. Other responsibilities may be assigned.

  • Prepare molds for production under the direction of a tooling assistant supervisor.
  • Disassemble molds to prepare them for cleaning and repair.
  • Follow all safety procedures for all material handling.
  • Clean molds by following approved methods. This may require the use of power equipment, hand tools, or chemicals.
  • Change inserts for molds as required. Ensure that the correct insert is in the mold to meet the production schedule. Ensure that the insert is oriented properly.
  • Prepare molds for storage by following approved methods.
  • Assist the mold makers as requested.
  • Lift and position work using power assists such as hoists. Ensure that molds are positioned in a safe and secure manner.
  • Reassemble molds after repair work has been completed. Ensure molds are reassembled according to the correct method.
  • Learn to test electrical systems in the mold. Repair or replace defective components.
  • Learn to test hydraulic systems in the mold. Repair or replace defective components.
  • Be aware of shop floor safety concerns at all times. Ensure employee safety is never compromised during mold movement.
  • Deliver molds to the correct press location. Follow the Mold Change Electronic Board.
  • Must scan molds to and from their locations.
  • Bring molds that have been removed from the press back to the tool room.
  • Place or remove molds in the appropriate storage locations as required by tool room employees.
  • Drive a forklift to transport and store molds. Ensure all safety rules are followed at all times.
  • Clean and maintain the tool room work areas and mold storage area as needed.
  • Update all mold date codes as needed. This will be done in the press.
  • Stay informed of new technology, methods, and materials within the field.
  • Support and comply with all Suncast safety policies, quality standards, and housekeeping methods at all times. Suncast policies have been developed to ensure compliance with employee law.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Experience moving heavy loads with a large tonnage forklift. Trained and certified to move molds required; recertification will be done yearly.
  • Tenth grade education or equivalent, plus experience working on and around machine tools. Formal shop training is a strong plus.
  • Machine Operation Skills
  • The Mold Mover-Cleaner must be capable of learning to operate all of the following machines or tools when required for mold work.
  • Lathe
  • Mold polishing tools
  • All air tools
  • Manual mill
  • Precision hand tools
  • Manual grinder
  • Precision measurement tools
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence such as work orders. Ability to print and/or speak simple sentences in Basic English.
  • For those who seek to advance, it is increasingly important to have progressively better English skills. At this time the predominant language among union workers is Spanish. To communicate in both English and Spanish, to understand written installation instructions, which are usually written in English and are highly technical; to be able to relay oral instructions and safety precautions to other workers with a limited understanding of English, makes bilingual Spanish/English a plus. Spanish
  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of U.S. weight measurement, volume, and distance.
