About the Opportunity:


Chelsea Piers is seeking to hire a full-time Basketball Coaching and Development Manager to join our Field House Basketball Department.

In this role, you will be responsible for spearheading and facilitating various aspects of coaching, player development, and overall team development within the Basketball and Sports programming department.

This role reports to the Director of Basketball and works closely with Sports Directors, coaches, and the registration office.

You will serve as the Acting Manager on Duty in the absence of the Director and must work at least one weekend day.

As the Basketball Coaching Development Manager, you will be expected to:

  • Serve as Acting Manager on Duty by:
  • Supervising staff to ensure effective performance, providing guidance, offering support, and resolving conflicts
  • Maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction, resolving complaints, and ensuring established standards are met
  • Problem solving and responding to registration and programming inquiries based on existing protocols
  • Collaborate with Sports Directors to align the Basketball program's vision, mission, and values while also embodying and highlighting the program's core values to coaches, parents, and players
  • Develop and implement a dynamic and engaging curriculum for Evolution youth teams and general basketball and multisport programming
  • Foster a culture of learning and growth with the Director by mentoring existing and incoming staff members
  • Provide support in organizing practices, planning classes, and implementing coaching strategies
  • Coach the following teams, classes, and camps:
  • General basketball and multi-sport classes (approximately 20-25 hours/week)
  • Evolution and Xcel teams (as Head Coach and as Assistant Coach) (approximately 1824 hours/week, including weekends)
  • School group classes and events
  • School break and summer camps
  • Oversee Evolution preteam program including recruiting, class fulfillment, parent communication, curriculum development, player advancement, future program success, and all administrative duties
  • Perform additional administrative duties as follows:
  • Manage logistics and communications for all tournaments, game series, private lesson requests, trial and makeup classes
  • Establish and maintain a comprehensive database of prospective players for targeted outreach and recruitment efforts
  • Administrative duties rate is $19.75/hour

About You:

You are enthusiastic, dependable, and professional. You have experience coaching multiple sports and working with children ages 2 14 years old. You also have experience designing and implementing player development programs tailored to different skill levels and age groups. You are able to work a flexible schedule, including multiple full weekends.


You will also have:

  • Minimum of 5 years coaching basketball at the youth, AAU, travel, and grassroots level
  • A bachelor's degree or higher
  • Ability to coach multiple sports including soccer, flag football, baseball, and tennis
  • Strong knowledge of the game of basketball, current trends, and coaching techniques in youth basketball
  • Ability to establish and maintain strong relationships with coaches, parents, and other basketball organizations
  • Ability to lead and motivate players, parents, and coaches
  • Willingness to implement, enhance, and maintain the program's core philosophies and tactics
  • Ability to manage administrative tasks such as scheduling practices, arranging travel, budgeting, and overseeing facilities
  • Excellent decisionmaking, problemsolving, and organization skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • CPR and SafeSport certified
  • A driver license and car
