Primary Purpose:

Provide substance abuse counseling services to clients in accordance with OASAS and Agency rules and regulations.


Licenses, Certificates, or Registrations:

A valid NYS driver License and clean driving records. CASAC or CASAC-T required.


Education Requirements:

A minimum of an Associcate's Degree in Psychology, Social Work or Chemical Dependency Counseling or a related field. Relevant work experience may be substituted for a degree.


Experience Requirements:


A minimum of one (1) year counseling experience in a substance abuse facility; preferably in a residential program serving chemically dependent adults or related education/experience.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Carry a caseload of up to 15 clients involving coordination, development, and implementation of treatment plans.
  • Prepare and maintain case records of individual residents, stating goals, objectives, and time frame for completion.
  • Develop Initial Service Plans within 72 hours of client admission.
  • Provide support to residents including motivation, support and encouragement for client goals.
  • Monitor clients for medical, mental health, safety and security issues.
  • Work cooperatively with the Program Director to meet the treatment needs of each client.
  • Monitor client medication schedules, following program procedure and protocols.
  • Orient residents upon admission to rules and regulations of Residence and/or Supportive Living Programs.
  • Collect urine drugs screens and breathalyzer testing for Community Residences clients.
  • Participate in weekly Case Conferences, staff meetings, and resident meetings including team meetings.
  • Require to work a flexible work schedule to maintain required staffing.
  • Other duties as assigned by Clinical Director.

Knowledge Required:

Knowledge of assessment techniques and quality service standards. Knowledge of information and techniques to rehabilitate physical and mental ailments and to provide guidance to clients and staff. Knowledge of PC based systems to include MS Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, and other MS Office Programs.


Language Requirements:


Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition and grammar.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to:
stand, walk, climb stairs, use hands and fingers to record information, reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.


Pay Rate:

$22.00
