Description

This individual will develop and manage the activities of the welding program to ensure that manufactured products meet or exceed quality standards, governing codes and regulations.

The essential welding related tasks include review of weld related requirements, technical review, definition of weld personnel requirements, evaluation of weld equipment, consumables, and materials, definition of WPS and PQR, weld inspection definition, training, oversight before/during/after, considerations of heat treatment, support of nonconforming material process, calibration, traceability, identification and quality records.


AWS D1.1 Program:


  • Develop, maintain, and implement a formal welding program to AWS D1.1 requirements
  • Recertify current PQR's & WPS's
  • Update and manage WQTR's
  • Maintain welder continuity
  • Maintenance of all work instructions, procedures & forms for welding
  • Welder's manual
  • Assess current WPS's and determine process gaps in relation to production needs
  • Develop a plan of compliance; # of tests, materials and test positions
  • Conduct yearly training for all welders; including the development of an advanced training program
  • Support Director of Quality and AWS Certified Weld Inspection personnel and further develop internal visual inspection personnel
  • Define & implement method for evaluating and certifying new employees
  • Define & implement a method for reviewing welders certifications in relation to scope of work they are performing
  • Define & implement a plan for scheduling major weldment inspections and procedure for repairing nonconformance's and verification of repairs
  • During project proposal process, review customer specifications and identify any exceptions or clarifications that should be resolved with the customer
  • Project Quality Planning:
  • Review project specific customer specification and identify special manufacturing or quality control requirements for inclusion in project quality planning documentation.
  • Identify standard quality requirements for inclusion in Vendor requirements.
  • Identify subcontracting and manufacturing required customer submittals.
  • Identify subcontracting and manufacturing required documentation required for final document submittal to customer.
Will also be responsible for ensuring that work is done within the framework of our commitment to ISO 9001 and Chicago Metal Fabricators Policies


Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or GED required.

Experience

  • Minimum 5 to7 years' technical and manufacturing experience in welding
  • Prior experience of weld program supervision is a plus
  • Intermediate to expert knowledge of welding processes, and equipment
  • Experience in destructive and nondestructive weld testing

Other Requirements

  • Good organizational skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Must have strong auditing skills.
  • Must be able to work hours as needed to complete assigned tasks.
  • Must be willing and able to travel.

Education or Experience

  • BS in Weld Engineering or advanced degree preferred
  • Worked under an AWS certified weld inspector (CWI) with particular knowledge of AWS D1.1, 1.3 and 1.6, 1
  • Previous or current NDT experience

  • Ability to communicate manufacturing process requirements

Pay:
$ $28.00 per hour
