    The Cordova Recreation & Park District (CRPD) is seeking a Program Coordinator to oversee the Teen Adventure Group, a program funded by the Outdoor Equity Grants Program, created through AB209 and administered by California State Parks, Office of Grants and Local Services.

    The Program Coordinator - Outdoor Recreation Program will provide support to the Recreation Department by planning and implementing the Teen Adventure Group and all components of the program and grant, including grant reporting. The Teen Adventure Group is comprised of youth who work with CRPD staff to host outdoor community events and participate in various nature trips. Community events include tree plantings, creek cleanup, Earth Day Celebration and bike maintenance workshops. Nature trips include mountain biking, kayaking, hiking and camping. The Program Coordinator will provide mentorship to youth participants and general guidance for recreation programs and services involving the community.

    Typical schedule: Not to exceed more than 15-30 hours a week; evenings, weekends, and holidays required

    The Cordova Recreation & Park District is one of the largest independent special districts in Northern California serving over 128,000 residents and four school districts in the greater Sacramento area. CRPD provides over 44 parks and recreational facilities, a full-service 18-Hole course at Cordova Golf Course, as well as youth & adult sports, camps, enrichment classes, educational programs and special events for the community.

    Summary Description
    Under the supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, performs work to assist with the coordination of the District's Outdoor Recreation Program and Teen Adventure Group; designs, implements and evaluates selected programs, classes, services, activities, and events to meet the needs of the community; and maintains records and reports.

    Essential Functions

    The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.
    • Assists in the planning, organizing, marketing, implementation, evaluation, and coordination of outdoor recreational programming, classes, special events and other activities related to the Teen Adventure Group.
    • Assists in the recruitment, assignment, training, and coordination of other part-time or volunteer support staff. Provides backup and may occasionally substitute for other positions including, but not limited to field staff, recreation leaders, and facilitators.
    • Enforces District and facility rules and procedures including, but not limited to, program rules, field use, care of equipment, and admittance to programs and facilities.
    • Perform opening and closing duties of assigned facilities; lock and arm facility with correct and effective use of the intrusion alarm system; prepare the facility to begin daily operations, if assigned.
    • Prepares, maintains and reports accurate program records as needed.
    • Prepares and maintain inventory records and may make purchases when authorized.
    • Uses strong customer service and interpersonal skills during public contact in a variety of settings including on the phone, over the counter, at staff meetings and during CRPD activities and events.
    • Conducts ongoing inspection of facilities, grounds, program equipment and programs to ensure safe operation of each.
    • Acts as Department representative to local residents, governmental agencies, community groups, private businesses, and others concerning questions, problems, concerns and activities in the provision of recreation programs and facility operations.
    • Provides backup and may occasionally substitute for other recreation positions including, but not limited to score keepers, field staff, recreation leaders, and facilitators.
    • Performs related duties as required.
    Minimum Qualifications

    The following generally describes the knowledge and ability required to enter the job and/or be learned within a short period of time in order to successfully perform the assigned duties.

    Knowledge of:
    • Operations, services, and activities of assigned recreation activities and programs.
    • Group recreational and social activities.
    • A variety of sports activities for youth and adults including facility and equipment use.
    • Modern methods, techniques, principles, and procedures used in planning and supervision of recreation programs and facilities.
    • Effective promotion and marketing of recreation programs, services, activities, and events.
    • Principles and practices of public parks and recreation program planning, organization, and administration.
    • Rules and equipment utilized in athletic and recreational programs and activities.
    • Office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
    • Organization and time management skills.
    • Appropriate safety precautions and procedures within the area of assignment.
    • Principles and practices of record keeping.
    Ability to:
    • Implement activities in support of assigned recreation program.
    • Effectively handle and diffuse disruptive behavior among program participants.
    • Communicate tactfully with customers and address public and customer questions and concerns.
    • Respond to emergency situations in a calm and effective manner.
    • Ensure safe and proper use of recreation facilities and equipment.
    • Administer first aid and CPR, if certified.
    • Gather, analyze, and report information.
    • Have strong customer service skills.
    • Multitask and plan and organize work to meet changing priorities.
    • Operate office equipment including computers and supporting word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
    • Learn and use specialized recreational software.
    • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
    Education and Experience Guidelines - Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
    Completion of two years of college with major course work in recreation, physical education or closely related field, and two years of experience in recreation leadership including recreation programming and coordinating classes/tournaments/league play. Additional years of experience may be substituted for required education.

    License or Certificate:

    Possession of, or ability to obtain, First Aid/CPR/AED certification within thirty (30) days of employment.
    Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License is required.

    Additional Requirements:

    Department of Justice (DOJ) background check.
    A clear tuberculosis screening is required.

    Sick Leave: All part-time and seasonal employees will be issued forty (40) hours of sick leave upon their date of hire and reinstated every one year anniversary to be available for the following twelve months not to exceed a 40 hour cap.
