Purpose and Scope


To support the Diocese of Phoenix in its mission to Encounter the Living Christ this position is responsible for the implementation of the goals, and objectives of lifelong faith formation of the Diocese of Phoenix in service to its parishes and schools, giving special emphasis to adolescents, young adults, and their families.

The Coordinator plans and facilitates youth and young adult ministry efforts, providing leadership and training in the delivery of programs that foster evangelization, catechesis, and other key components of the USCCB documents.

  • Prepare and facilitate training programs for youth and young adult ministry leaders and volunteers that support the Diocese of Phoenix standards and the parish's Pastoral Plan for Ministry with Young Adults and the National Directory for Catechesis and General Directory for Catechesis.
  • Develop and coordinate events and programs such as rallies, conferences, retreats, service experiences and leadership training that foster the spirituality and empowerment of youth and young adults in the Diocese.
  • Coordinate the development of resources, programs, and services for the support of volunteers and professionals for facilitating parish youth and young adult services.
  • Provide leadership, mentoring and professional development for youth and young adult leaders.
  • Maintain active communication with parish leaders, including use of traditional websites and emerging social media technology (in adherence to Diocesan policies), to provide information about current youth and young adult ministry models, materials, and leadership resources.
  • Work in close collaboration with the pastor and staff of St. Mary's Basilica to engage the community in direct service youth and young adult ministry.
  • Develop direct service to the youth and young adults of the Diocese of Phoenix through having a ministry and leadership role at St. Mary's Basilica in addition to being the Coordinator of the Youth and Young Adult Office of the Diocese.
  • Offer Leadership Formation for Parish Youth and Young Adult Ministers and Teams for Youth Ministry within St. Mary's Community and within the Diocese of Phoenix.
  • Help to develop through growing leadership and engagement with youth and young adults of St. Mary's Community and of the Diocese with the Samaritan Outreach Center. To collaborate with the training opportunities of the center.
  • Oversee the formation and development of a Diocesan Youth Pastoral Council.

Requirements:


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Ability to keep abreast of youth and young adult faith formation trends to establish relevant parish training resources.
  • Selfinitiator, creative and good judgment.
  • Possesses excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Demonstrates a highlevel of professionalism.
  • Effective communicator.
  • Maintains exceptional attention to detail, ability to prioritize and multitask to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Ability to deal with confidential matters and use discretion with sensitive matters.
  • Well versed in using a computer and social media, including, and not limited to Microsoft Suite, NXT.
  • Ability to work well in a collaborative team environment.
  • Must possess a thorough working knowledge of the Catholic Church.
  • Possess a practical, working knowledge of the various youth and young adult movements and programs in the Roman Catholic Church, particularly those most prevalent in the Diocese of Phoenix.
  • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish preferred

Minimum Qualifications

  • Active practicing Roman Catholic who is in full communion with the Church.
  • Ability to articulate a clear understanding of the Catholic faith and to serve as a committed witness to its mission.
  • Ability to exercise prudent and independent judgment and maintain efficient, confidential procedures in handling Diocesan matters.
  • Master's degree or equivalent work experience highly preferred
  • Active practicing Catholic in full communion with the Roman Catholic Church.
  • Master's degree in youth and young adult formation and ministry or related field, plus demonstrated professional experience in effectively developing related content.
  • Valid AZ driver's license and the ability to travel to other locations within the Diocese for workrelated duties.
