Description

The UCLA Information Security Office enables UCLA's goals by providing leadership assuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of its information resources.

The Information Security Office enables efficient incident response planning and notification procedures.

In addition, the office aims to implement risk assessment strategies to identify vulnerabilities and threats to departmental information resources and enterprise systems.

This includes executing a comprehensive UCLA information security plan, which involves proposing, delivering, and enforcing administrative, technical, and physical security measures to tackle identified risks based on their sensitivity or criticality.

The Unit Information Security team acts as a liaison between the Information Security Office and each department or unit to enable tailored security services that accommodates their unique business, academic, and research needs driving standards for managing and responding to security risk and vulnerabilities.

The Manager, Unit Information Security is responsible for overseeing, coordinating, and deploying information security activities, policies, practices, and initiatives from the Information Security Office to academic and administrative units at UCLA.

This individual will manage a team of skilled information security professionals, Unit Information Security Leads (UISLs), ensuring effective communication, collaboration, and compliance with organizational security policies and procedures.

This Manager will work closely with peer security leaders to develop and implement comprehensive security strategies fit for the federated model of the university.

Their team will actively monitor UCLA's security practices across the campus and continuously work to improve the university's security posture.

The Manager, Unit Information Security will positively impact UCLA's operations and culture by protecting University stakeholders' information and data in service of the institution's academic mission.

This team member will advance the University's mission by delivering exceptional security service comprehensively and consistently across faculty, staff, and students.

This role will execute UCLA's vision while modeling UCLA's culture and values.
Salary & Compensation

  • UCLA provides a full pay range. Qualifications

  • 7 years Experience working in one or more of the following fields: information technology, cybersecurity, computer science, management, higher education, or a related field. (required)
  • 5 years Experience leading teams in a management or leadership role, particularly in a fastpaced, serviceoriented environment. (required)
  • Extensive experience in information and cyber security operations. (required)
  • Demonstrated experience leading and managing teams, including abilities in persuasion, negotiation, change management, and mentorship. (required)
  • Significant experience solving complex, technical and nontechnical problems with budget, timeline, and other resource implications. (required)
  • Significant experience providing inclusive leadership of others, advancing an inclusive environment that values equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging. (required)
  • Experience in complex higher education environments, serving academic and administrative functions of a large public university. (preferred)
  • 10 years Experience working in one or more of the following fields: information technology, cybersecurity, computer science, management, higher education, or a related field. (preferred)
  • 6 years Experience leading teams in a management or leadership role, particularly in a fastpaced, serviceoriented environment. (preferred)
  • Demonstrated understanding of privacy and security regulations and best practices, including federal and state laws, policies and standards, as well as extensive knowledge about a wide range of privacy / security regulations relevant to higher education and / or medical center and patient info. (required)
  • Broad management expertise in determining and recommending actions, to follow in IT security and privacy matters. (required)
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills in order to work with both technical and nontechnical personnel at various levels in an organization. (required)
  • Demonstrated ability to change the thinking of, or gain acceptance from, others in sensitive situations, without damage to the relationship. (required)
