Basic Function/Definition

  • The primary responsibility of the Driver is to transport passengers using District vehicles to various campuses and offsite locations within California.

Time Commitment:


  • These are temporary, hourly positions, based on Rio Hondo College (RHC) needs. Drivers may work up to a maximum of 19 hours per week.
  • The Americans with Disabilities Act (_ADA_) requires the District to identify the essential (E) duties/functions of the position. We have indicated those duties with an E on the job description._

Essential Duties

  • Operate District vehicles over as prescribed routes to transport passengers to and from specific destinations within Southern California, such as field trips or athletic competitions, while using safety precautions and safe driving principles at all times. (E)
Operate all equipment in a legal, safe manner, free of impairment from drug and/or alcohol use. (E)
Drive District vehicles on various, daily, and overnight field trips as needed. (E)
Use navigation and mapping tools to determine the best route(s) to arrive at destinations on schedule. (E)
Use Push To Talk (PTT) radios, telephones, and/or mobile two-way radios for communication purposes. (E)
Report delays, accidents, or other traffic and transportation situations to supervisors and others as appropriate. (E)
Interact with passengers professionally at all times. (E)

Perform daily vehicle inspections by checking the condition of a vehicle's tires, brakes, windshield wipers, lights, oil, fuel, water, etc, to ensure that everything is in working order.
