Summary Objective:


The purpose of this position is to transport clients to and from Center, medically related appointments, social service agencies, parks and recreation programs and special events.

Operates a bus to transport clients.

This class works under close to general supervision according to set procedures but determines how or when to complete tasks.


Essential Functions:


The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

  • Transports participants to and from the Center for Active Aging, to medically related appointments, social service agencies, special events, and other designated destinations.
  • Transports participants to and from Citywide special events and parks and recreation programs.
  • Operate various transportation vehicles, including 1225 passenger accessible buses and a large activity bus.
  • Assists participants with entering and exiting the bus, and with wheelchairs and walkers.
  • Follows established city rules and regulations related to the operation use of buses.
  • Provides reports on routing, passengers, maintenance, and mileage.
  • Cleans interior and exterior of vehicles daily.
  • Inspects bus daily for any damages.
  • Checks bus engine for issues.
  • Assists staff members as requested.
  • Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice.

Typical Qualifications:


MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


  • High School Graduation or GED equivalent.
  • Three (3) years of public transportation experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state, CDL Class A or B with Passenger Endorsement and an acceptable driving history.
  • Chauffer's License required.
  • CPR/First Aid Certifications (or must obtain within 6month probationary period and remain valid throughout employment).

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • School Bus endorsement preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities, Work Environment and Work Hours:


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:


  • Knowledge of light automotive equipment operating principles and common hazards and safety precautions necessary for equipment operation.
  • Ability to operate a 78passenger school bus.
  • Knowledge of street and highway routes.
  • Skill in the operation of light automotive equipment.
  • Ability to establish effective relationships with senior citizens, the general public and other City employees and to understand written and oral instructions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:


  • Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement._
  • Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 30 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:


  • Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken._
  • Involves routine and frequent exposure to:
  • Bright/dim light; Dusts and pollen.
  • Extreme heat and/or cold; Wet or humid conditions.

WORK HOURS
***Saturday - Friday, 7:30am - 4:30pm & Special Events (40 Hours per week; may be required to work nights, weekends and holidays to meet the business needs of the City.)
