Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Superintendent of Parks, the Parks Security Officer will be responsible for protecting and monitoring our parks and facilities.

As well as engaging with patrons that are visiting or renting District athletic fields, shelters, and facility spaces to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all.


General Hours:
This is a seasonal position that is needed from April 1st to October 31st. This position requires availability during nights and weekends. Typical workdays will be Monday through Friday 3:30pm to 10:00pm and Saturday and Sunday 7:00am to 3:30pm and 3:30pm to 10:00pm


Essential Functions:


  • Patrols district parks and facilities to prevent and discover vandalism, unruly conduct, and other ordinance violations.
  • Welcome and observe public gatherings and rentals; identifies violators; calls local police if detention or arrest is necessary.
  • Monitors facility, shelter, and athletic reservationschecking for permits, monitoring the use of non
- district motorized vehicles and equipment on district property, and ensuring that alcohol is not consumed or sold on District property.

  • Responds to guest or staff accidents/injuries/complaints and completes all necessary reports to document incidents.
  • Write, maintain, and present detailed reports, noting any damages, theft, accidents, or other irregular activity.
  • Locks gates, park restrooms, and checks windows and doors after facilities close.
  • Contact emergency personnel (Police/Fire/EMS) when needed.
  • Develops and maintains positive public relations with public and law enforcement officers.
  • Report park maintenance issues or hazardous conditions to park maintenance staff and supervisor and secures the area.
  • Provides general assistance to the public.
  • Assist with district events by directing traffic, closing parking lots or trails, and foot patrols.
  • Inspect, monitor, and reports illegal dumping and overnight stays on district property.
  • Close athletic fields due to cancellations and prohibit the use of facilities when closed
  • Assures that tools and equipment are properly maintained and kept in proper working order.
  • Attend pertinent departmental/park district meetings and inhouse training sessions.
  • Participate as a team member to assist and improve the overall services to the community.
  • Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures, including the weapons policy, as designated by the district.
  • Assist in miscellaneous duties when required or instructed by supervisor, including but not limited to:
a. Clean, sanitize and stock restrooms as needed.

b. Performs minor repairs to playgrounds, parks, and facilities.

c. Sweep and mop shelter and restrooms floors as needed.

d. Collect trash.

e. Remove or cover graffiti.

  • Performs other workrelated duties and functions as assigned.

Education, Experience and Training:


  • Former military, law enforcement and/or security experience preferred.
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Possess and maintain a valid Illinois diver license.
  • Being bilingual is a plus.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED Certification is required within 30 day of hire date. If you are not already certified, training will be provided.

  • Ability to work unsupervised and independently and make independent decisions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively within various settings, from oneonone to group configurations.
  • Proficiency to read and write in English and organize effectively.
  • Maintain a neat and professional appearance.
  • Capacity to maintain selfcontrol and composure in difficult situations.
  • Assist with supervision of seasonal staff.

  • Exposure to chemicals such as cleaning solutions, solvents, petroleum products, etc.
