Duties:


THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION
This position involves a
multi-grade career ladder. The major duties listed below represent the full performance level of GS-09. At the GS- 07 grade level, you will perform assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence. You will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-09.

Promotion is at the discretion of the supervisor and is contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of higher level work, and availability of funds.


Employee interprets VA rules and regulations relating to determining legal entitlement to benefits relating to hospital admission; nursing home, dental, domiciliary, Community Care (outside VA), and outpatient care; dental treatment; prosthetic appliances; patient transfer; and beneficiary travel.

Authorized as certifying officer for documents pertaining to the administration of laws concerning VA. Coordinates the resolution of medical legal problems concerning the medical center. Ensures that appropriate legal, regulatory, and policy requirements are met.

Performs duties in the absence of the Survivors Assistance and Memorial Support Clerk during off tour hours. HOD assist funeral homes and families in disposition of effects and Veterans remains. Contact clinical stakeholders to informing of the Veteran's death, Chaplain, Case Management & Social Work etc. Coordinates with Funeral homes and releases Veteran's remains during non-business hours.

S/he must have knowledge of VA policy and regulations regarding the Organ Donor Program and the donation of bodies as requested.

Monitors fire system, refrigerator temperature alarms, fire alarms, and intrusion alarms and codes. Notifies all appropriate personnel when necessary following facility protocol. Ensures Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems are operational. Notifies appropriate Office of Information Technology (OIT) staff of any incidents. Is knowledgeable of downtime procedures when systems are offline and provides support to clinical staff on site. Can reset PIV badges and passwords during other than normal business hours.

Ability to deal with variety of individuals with tact. diplomacy and empathy. Ability to interpret and explain VA policies to house staff, patients, employees, and others. Ability to present self in a professional attitude and to create positive impression as management's representative.

Ability to identify and analyze complex problems or situations with a range of variables. Ability to complete assigned projects, studies, narrative and statistical reports, reviews in a thorough, accurate, and timely manner. Ability to explain and organize complex issues in writing.

GS-7:


Specialized experience:

One (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-5) in the Federal Service, that is directly related to the work of the position and has equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties as a Medical Administrative Specialist HOD.

Qualifying specialized experience includes Basic knowledge of medical center organization, functions, specialties, and programs, i.e., Social Work, Nursing, Laboratory, Radiology, etc.; experience locating and interpreting regulations from a wide range of sources; reviewing data and information for trends, problem areas, and makes recommendations to management to resolve issues; ability to cope with wide variety of problems and to resolve them quickly and decisively; and explain and organize complex issues in writing.
