Description

As the Production Planner/Buyer, you will be responsible for daily oversight of production scheduling and for all purchasing-related functions that support production and administrative needs.

You will actively work with plant personnel to identify problems and develop solutions to minimize or eliminate delays in the production process.

You will also be responsible for the creation and dissemination of relevant reports and analysis.

You are also responsible for leading in the development and implementation of cost savings opportunities, minimizing working capital and obsolescence through disciplined raw material inventory, and establishment of efficient purchasing methods.

Other key responsibilities include the determination of item-based min/max levels, handling supplier quality complaints, and collaborating across other Fortis facilities as needed.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Create daily production schedules.
  • Process Production job tickets submitted by Customer Service.
  • Schedule Production jobs in the most efficient order possible
  • Adjust the schedule as needed based on availability of staffing, components, press time, and customer expectations.
  • Scrubbing tickets for correct footage
  • Checking inventory when Jobs require special size cores and / or boxes.
  • Running MRP reports and discussing actions needed with the Plant Manager and head of Customer Service.
  • Monitor the ship request list to ensure orders are prioritized based on delivery date.
  • Provide feedback to Customer service regarding lead times and achievable ship dates based on order quantities and complexity.
  • Help drive aged inventory reduction.
  • Help manage Die retools and remakes.
  • Measure and report on time delivery metrics including root cause analysis and tracking of any missed shipments.
  • Drive operational improvements that lead to increased efficiencies, decrease overall costs, and improve service capacity.
  • Lead and host meetings with other FSG facilities for transfer work as required, reducing, and eliminating shortages.
  • Facilitate daily scheduling / production meeting with a cross functional team.
  • Facilitate weekly schedule review with production managers and GM. Ensure proper staffing requests are made for the current backlog and lead times.
  • Work with operations team to identify and implement process improvements to improve product runtime and reduce cost.
  • Directly responsible for the accurate issuance of plant purchase orders to vendors on a daily basis per the plant administrative and manufacturing needs. Accurately provide the necessary tracking of purchases to ensure ontime delivery. Follow up with suppliers in the case of delays, incorrect quantities, or damaged goods.
  • Participate in monthly conference calls and quarterly department meetings with other plant buyers to develop best practices.
  • Coordinate forecasting with major raw material suppliers and FSG manufacturing plants, minimizing overall system inventory while not impacting customer deliveries.
  • Keep aged raw material to below 90 days and support Director of Supply Chain initiatives for SKU and web width consolidation.
  • Fill out and file all vendor claim documents and ensure tracking and credit receipt. Ensure materials are properly disposed of and removed from MRP system.
  • Serve as point of contact for the local plant level supplier relationships.
  • Conduct bid packages & consolidate on indirect materials, plant services & supplies where possible.
  • Work with fellow plants to prioritize and follow up on raw material consolidations and substitutions while ensuring accurate system data.
  • Complete plant related vendor scorecard tracker from the approved vendor database.
  • Issue purchase orders as required to FSG approved outsource vendors. Point of contact for all outsource vendor services & relationships.
  • Additional duties as requested, to include internal crosstraining of various positions.
  • Safety: Assure the safety, protection, and efficient use of financial, physical, and human resources of the organization.
  • Support Plant budget by controlling inventory and supply spending.
  • Monitor and achieve annual performance objectives & supply chain metrics.
  • Support Production by purchasing required items considering competitive pricing, quality, availability, and delivery.
  • Create and maintain strong vendor relationships, establishing communications to assure that requirements are being met.
  • Optimize the purchasing process to assure that quality is builtin, not inspected in. Quality must meet FSG, customer and vendor requirements.

Requirements:


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree preferred, degree/studies in science, business, engineering, finance, or organizational management strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of relevant lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other supply chain demand planning knowledge.
