Caregiver Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW:


Seniors Helping Seniors
Caregivers provide companion care and personal assistance services in accordance with approved care plans to support the in-home safety and independence of our clients.

Caregivers serve as the face of the agency, interacting directly with clients to carry out the agreed upon care plans coordinated by the agency and the client and/or responsible party, and to promote best-in
- class services provided by the agency. Caregivers utilize the agency's care management platform,

WellSky Personal Care, to monitor their shift schedules, to log in and log out of assigned shifts, to review, track, and perform care plan tasks, and to make notes and comments on all shifts performed.


REQUIREMENTS:


  • Must be at least 30 years of age to ensure we're committed to the company's most unique selling point: we match seniors in need with mature, compassionate professionals who understand the aging process

NOTE:
Exceptions to the age requirement can only be approved by the agency administrator.


  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check, nurse aide registry check, and an employee misconduct registry check as required by the State of Texas.
  • Must have reliable transportation to commute to and from assigned places of work.
  • If providing driving services to clients, caregivers must have a clean driving record including no more than two misdemeanor moving violations within the last 3 years, and no felony driving charges.




REPORTING:

Caregivers report to assigned care coordinators and work cooperatively with company schedulers to fill available and open shifts in support of client needs.


RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:


1. Client Services a. Provide all client services agreed upon by care coordinators and clients or their responsible parties


NOTE:

Caregivers will not be "matched" to clients for services they are unwilling to perform or where any other conflicts exist.

b.

Complete all assigned tasks as outlined in the client care plan, as noted on any client/responsible party or care coordinator provided notes and instructions, and as requested by clients during shifts.

c. Ensure all tasks performed remain within the scope of services authorized for Seniors
Helping Seniors. The agency is licensed only for non-medical personal assistance services and cannot perform medical related tasks or medication administration. If in doubt, contact the agency administration to seek clarification before performing any questionable tasks. i.

Task Allowed (Not all inclusive):
1.


Companion Care:

socialization, companionship, light housekeeping, cooking and meal preparation, escort to appointments and events, shopping and errands, pet care, and medication reminders.

2.


Personal Assistance Services:

assistance with personal hygiene such as bathing and showering, assistance with toileting and incontinence clean-up, dressing, feeding assistance, and mobility and transfer assistance.

ii.

Tasks Not Allowed (Not all inclusive):

Medical Assistance:

wound care and/or changing bandages, giving injections, performing blood sugar checks, changing and cleaning ostomy bags, performing tube feedings, or providing suppositories or enemas.


Therapy:
providing occupational, speech, or physical therapies

Medication Administration:
providing injections, pills, patches, breathing treatments, or other medications directly to the client. d. Maintain professionalism and privacy of client at all times. Seniors Helping Seniors complies with all HIPPA requirements. e. Refer all client complaints and accusations of Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation (ANE) to the administrator or care coordinator immediately. f.

Report any scheduling changes requested by the client or responsible party to the company scheduler or care coordinator upon completion of each shift.

g.

Always provide comments at the end of every shift noting client mood, behavior, physical or mental state, and any other constructive observations the family, health care professionals, and/or other caregiving team members supporting the client may need to know to provide continuity of care.


GENERAL STANDARDS:

1. _ Always be punctual for assigned shifts.

Present a professional appearance and represent Seniors Helping Seniors in a positive way. Dress professionally but comfortably. SHS does not require caregivers to wear scrubs.

    Adhere to safe personal hygiene practices to promote infection control and guard against spread of diseases.4. _
    Maintain positive communication with the company staff. _5. _
    Provide all services assigned for every task. If all tasks are complete, offer assistance with other allowable services or provide companionship and engagement with the client. _ _6. _
    Always maintain client confidentiality and report any concerns to the administration immediately._
