Assistant Director, Academic and Career Advisement - Essex, United States - Community College of Baltimore County
Description
The purpose of this class is to assist in providing leadership in the planning, supervision, and oversight of the Academic Advisement and Career Services department and programs.
Compensation within the above posted range is determined by a candidate's education level and/or years of experience in the field.
Generally, employees are hired in the lower third of the scale.
Masters degree required, and five (5) years of academic advising experience, preferably in a community college. Three (3) years of full time experience supervising, training or performing outreach activities for professional advisors, faculty and staff. Proficient knowledge of the advising processes, pedagogy and FERPA guidelines. Demonstrated knowledge of online student tracking systems and database management.

Provide leadership and supervision of assigned College division or function.
Assist the Director of Academic and Career Advisement with the implementation of college-wide high-quality and high-impact advising and career services, including academic planning; transfer and employment planning; career exploration and decision-making; academic progress monitoring and interventions; resource referrals; and college navigation support.
Develop and implement goals and objectives in coordination with senior management.Implement strategies related to operation and services.
Evaluate the effectiveness of policies and procedures to ensure consistency.
Supervise, advise, and evaluate assigned staff, as required.
Prepare, analyze and provide reports on miscellaneous subjects, as requested.
Serve as liaison between College departments, vendors, government agencies and/or other external organizations.
Manage operating budget for assigned division or function, as required.

Provide administrative management and oversight of academic advisement services, including transfer services, initiatives for targeted student populations, and supporting on campus and virtual academic advisement events, initiatives and programs (i.e. online academic advising and advising labs).
Process and monitor staff in the effective communication of confidential and complex information to ensure the provision of quality academic advisement in assisting students reach academic goals.
Enforce federal, state, local and institutional policies and other regulations including FERPA to daily tasks.Analyze and report student trend data to determine appropriate staffing for walk in, virtual and appointment based services.
Ensure consistency and ongoing communication regarding recruitment, admissions, advising, testing, registration, and financial aid for students.
Contribute and follow recommendations of the student development training team to provide ongoing training to support CCBC Online, Start Smart, Academic Pathways, ECAP/Early College High School and other college initiatives.
Communicate and collaborate with other college departments to expedite resolution of problems, specifically as it pertains tostaffing, student or general service concerns.
Collaborate with college-wide Instructional Pathway faculty coordinators to support academic pathway initiatives and provide feedback, direction and guidance, where applicable.
Guide staff in the consistent delivery of service and in the provision of referrals to other support services within the college when appropriate.
